Mussel?

Hi,I have just found what looks like a mussel that is about an inch long and nearly as wide.i have never seen it before and it has appeared in a crevice on a sheer drop part of my homemade main rock,so it would have to have traveled there somehow ater being imported on some other piece of live rock.im just surprised how it got half way up a rock face and into a tight crevice on a vertical rock face. It seems that this shelled creature has it s opening on its long end as apposed to a side opening, unless of course it's got it's back to me,but I doesn't look like there's an opening at other end.i can't get a good picture because it's in this crevice and snaps shut when I put light on it.when it's open I can see a blackish orangey ?(gunge)) or something slightly protruding from its opening.has anyone any idea what it might be ? .

Hi,sorry for delay. Yes I think it's is what u said .a bi valve mussel.do u know if they self reproduce in reef aquariums?

I'm not exactly sure if they'll reproduce in our tanks, but I would suspect there would have to be a lot of food in the system for this to happen. You would probably have to dose this, which could become more trouble than it's worth IMO. I would just let nature take it's course and hope for the best, but it's your decision. GL.

Ty,yes won't do anything different. It's in the same place.so must be happy.my nitrates are showing a regular 10 ppm,.po4 is zero.maybe that's why it's still alive.
