I need to know what are the "Must go Conventions in 2012" something like a Comicon in the aquarium world here in the US or even Internationally?
All I know is the "Marine Aquarium Expo" MAX. Anything else pls. share it here.
Never been into one and planning on attending. Thanks

Other than MACNA, NERAC is something that I wouldn't miss. It's on the other coast for you though...

IMO if your going to travel to so cal for a show RAP (reef-a-palooza) is a MUCH better show than MAX

MACNA, RAP, and MAX seem to be the only really large shows here in the states (IMAC was another, but is no longer running due to the passing of its founder a year or so ago)
the Coral Farmers Markets are nice however these are smaller boutique-type events for coral sales/purchases

If money is no object, you have Interzoo in Germany every two years (all pets) the International Aquarium Conference (IAC) in South Africa this year (runs every four years in different locations) and various other large shows appear in Malaysia/Indonesia and the rest of South East Asia each year....you would be very surprised at just how many.

A good source for shows here in the states would be Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine:
http://www.tfhmagazine.com/

A good source for events overseas (fresh and salt) would be the Malaysian Fisheries Directory:
http://www.myaquatic.com/

Of course there are many other publications available but these are the two that come to mind.

I hope this helps

1000% agree :)

REEFstock in Denver is awesome, its put on by ************.

First Wave in Texas is great, put on by the DWF club.

BAYMAC may return again this year to the Bay Area if we can find another suitable venue.

Michigan has a great conference.

Incorrect and you know it... guess your still sore about Frank not returning your safe

The event was passed on prior to him passing away, then put to bed by a new group.

Me neither, although I did miss it last year. Can't wait for it this yer given the new facilities :) (Hotel and Convention center added)

and I'm sure that you like basketball more than baseball, beer more than wine, and the color blue more then yellow, etc. but why would people care to know this???

The original poster was merely asking for additional shows that are out there, not your personal ranking of one particular event over the other.

Wrong, he was asking for must go conventions. In his opinion RAP is a must go if you are going to one show in socal, MAX is not.

I'm sorry, please bear with me......
where in the world did the concept of "having to pick only ONE show in SoCal" ever enter the picture? You seem to have miraculously introduced a new agenda to the conversation as if nobody would notice.

Did anyone point out that you should go to Coral Farmer's Market, but NOT Baymac, or Next Wave but NOT Reefstock? Just for kicks and giggles, how about supporting your favorite show by pointing out WHY it is so great without having to bash others?

CFM does not have a Denver event, nor a Bay Area event (until 2014) and CFM is at NextWave (in Texas). None of those shows are in the same area, nor are competing for the same attendees (locals). Try coming up with a scenario that actually is plausible to make your case :D

For those of you that do not know:

Kevin Adams - AKA Reefmeister2 is the promoter of MAX & SeaMax.

He'll point out I am the promoter for BAYMAC and I was part of the last IMAC.

Oh, I thought you guys put the event on? Did that change when CFM joined in? I haven't been able to attend any of the joint events :( This year though :)

I was just correcting the 2 names so people wouldn't go looking for a firstwave put on by DWF. DFWMAS puts on NextWave.

And thank you for staying civil & adult. More people want to attend events that are professionally represented. :)

Couldn't agree more (and thank you for mentioning)
All is well, this is merely a debate (not an argument) so no reason for anyone to be disrespectful or anything of that nature.

Just so people know, Per RC rules, promoters are NOT allowed to advertise, promote, or otherwise talk about their shows here in the public forums, so that is the reason for me not announcing "who" exactly reefmeister2 is. (can't have logo shown either) so you will not see me talking about event "X" directly....only to defend outright unfair and/or inappropriate posts in general.
We must be very carefull (and respectful) of the rules at all times, so this is sometimes like trying to talk with one's hands behind their backs, LOL

I am not sure (nor accusing) if Gresham was implying any deception on my part, but if that is/was what was perceived by anybody, please note the above paragraph as to why the vagueness.

These events are, afterall, for EVERYONE's benefit, so if someone is saying go to "A" but don't go to "B" does that not reek of something sour to you?
Gresham, LOCATION is hardly an excuse to bash. Friendly competition benefits nearly everyone involved, as long as everyone stays just that: Friendly

Nope, to me it means that person does not like that show (and wants others to know) for what ever reason and they are welcome to their opinion. Sorry you do not feel the same as them.
