My 10G nano Project Underay - Lots of Pictures!!!!!!

Sun corals are very pretty. They are not photosynthetic though. They require live feedings several times a week and are considered by most to be a HIGH maintenance coral. It may be that the person you bought it from on ebay found that out, and was trying to get rid of it. They don't like light very much hence they often live in caves.

When the lights are on, they will curl up into themselves (quite ugly actually) only showing their polyps when being fed or at night.

In my opinion, i don't thing I would waste valuable tank space on such a picky and seldom seen coral. There are many other species that are easier to keep, and more visible during daylight.
(Though they are beautiful when 'out and about')

The method "mahalamata" suggested works really well if the colony is small enough. Especially if there are other fish around.

You could always try it out, and trade it if you feel it's too much hassle. Maybe a nice Tridacnid clam.

ironic how there called sun corals but dont like light. Yeah was just wondering what the maintenance would be before i decided to buy ive read a little that they need feeding quite a bit. The guy on ebay sells coral frags 3 for 30 quid so was going to get those two zoos and a sun coral, although it does seem like alot of hassle for something ur not going to see. Owell will post pics later of the new additions to the tank.

Received my zoo safe and well got them in the tank now think I will do some better aquascaping when I have time but for the mean while here’s what they look like.

Hoping they will colour up a bit more as well here’s the photos after theyve been in for a couple of hours.

well i hope these are not too big, first time using photobucket....tell me what you think.
also great buy on those zoos they look great!!

Cool looks good I like the feeling of the open space too and like the island theme that’s what ive been trying to do but its hard work trying to aquascape in a 9" depth think I may build my next tank wider and shallow for the perspective of depth.

Is that an alcove u have built the tank into I like how its hidden behind a false wall good idea I too have an alcove but is the home to the TV no negotiating there.

Heres more shots under the actnics

because i live in a shared house i have to have the tank in my room...hence the downsize too.yes ive love the idea of "in-wall" tanks,so i built a "cuboard" fo it to sit in.i have made it flush with the chimney breast so it kind of looks like part of the wall...half way up anyway lol.one day i will get a decent camera and put up a "how i did it" post but until then im glad you like my setup!
again i really like those zoos.im looking on ebay at afew myself.....

yeah theres some nice ones on eBay just now the guy threw in an extra frag for me too. Im up for fragging and trading when they grow a bit.

So on glancing at the tank today i noticed this ball moving around

On closer inspection noticed it was hermits fighting welcome to Hermit Fight Club.

Started to watch them when one of them came out there shell and tried to pull the other one out of its shell however this turned nasty and the one without the shell got nipped and ran off so was running around naked. Meanwhile the shelled up hermit was holding on to the naked hermits shell and wouldnt give it back anyhoo heres some pics i found this quite ammusing.

are those electirc/neon blue hermit?if so,they eventually get rather for small setups such as ours.they dont cause much damage but do tend to move rockwork around push frags over etc etc.with hermit crabs try and add afew empty shells of the same size and abit bigger for them to move to as they grow.if im not mistaken you can find a wide variety on ebay at reasonable prices.

I have those, lol never seen them do that though. I usually get free shells from my lfs. You should ask them if they have any you could have. They get hermits by the drove so a few shells wouldnt even affect them.

Hi Not much been done to the tank im just kinda letting it settle in for a bit. Fragged a few of my zoos on to a little bit of live rock rubble i had think there 4 different types of zoos on the one rock.

The skimmer works great very quiet does the job of pulling out the waste its quite a wet skimate which is produced but you can see how dirty it is. Ive only done two water changes so far and all the perameters have been fine so i assume its doing its job.

Although the clownfish i got not to long ago has some black spots on it now. When i first got him i noticed it had two black speckles on its tail this has now spread over its body. Think its Black Ich so have quarintened it and fres water dipped it but still seems to have the spots. Any sugestions.

You have a very interesting setup here. I was wondering if we could get an updated shot of just the back of the tank with the pumps/refuge/skimmer in action? How is the second pump working out for you, is it pulling crap out of the refuge? Also, where did you end up putting your heater?

Hello: If you haven't solved your cooling problems you might consider building one. I am in the process of it using a Peltier. Here is the model I bought which maybe is to much for 10 gallons since ~760 watts = 1 hp.

I am going to use two water blocks one for the aquarium side and one for the radiator. Another cool thing is that if you reverse the current it will heat too.

I worked about a year with a guy from Aberdeen.

Hey There

So ive been having a streak of bad luck recently and here’s my tank now.

marine_log_152.JPG

Sadly my Clown fish died. Just as the black spots had disappeared 2 days later it decides to jump down into one of the compartments at the back and got sucked by the pump and died there.

Came home from work the other day and noticed glass smashed everywhere over the floor and in the tank? Thought the tank had cracked or something like that but there was still water and everything in place then noticed it was the piece of glass from the metal halide cover. As shown in the pic below. The cause of this was that I have the fans on a timer which I must have knocked or something as it wasn’t plugged in properly this caused the temperature to hit 35*C twhich must of smashed the glass with the heat. I thought most of my livestock would have near boiled but there fine now.

marine_log_153.JPG

Here was there temporary home for a night until I bought some more sand and cleaned out the whole tank and rock to make sure there was no glass left.

Here I go again fresh start.

marine_log_156.JPG

Also thought I would show you a pic of the compartments at the back this was taken before I tidied it up.

marine_log_157.JPG

I have a thing about keeping wires neat and tidy so decided to get some cable tidy’s and get it all neat it was annoying me before with all the wires just floating around the back.

Here’s a close up of the compartments at the back

marine_log_159.JPG

Voila back to normal with a slight bit of re aqua scaping on which I am happier with than what it was previously. I also added a new fish and a tiny zoo frag. This time I decided to go with sand like you would find at the beach in comparison with the coarse coral sand I much prefer it and glad I had an excuse to swap the sand.

This time instead of an aesthetically pleasing fish I decided to go with one who was a bit more productive and helpful a spotted goby he's not been out much so aint got any photos but will post some when I get a chance. I was so close to buying a mandarin goby in the hope that it would eat frozen food but decided it would just wipe out all the pods growing then starve, what a pity the fussy buggers don’t just eat frozen.
