My 110 Gallon Peninsula Reef Tank

Looks awesome. I used to have a lot of wide open space around the base of my two pillars - seeing your sandbed and the space around your rockwork at the base makes me want to clear things out a bit and make it seem less cluttered, looks very visually appealing.

Thanks jroovers!!! keeping the sand bed free of corals is one of those things that I try very hard on maintaining!!! trust me it's not east!! specially were we are GTA!!! with all the reef stores around it's hard not to grab corals on a whim!

Your system is amazing and thank you for inspiring me to continue to rebuild my little reef tank. Have a few questions.
1. What salt brand
2. How do you keep up the calcium demand
3. Do you feed the Sps at all directly by target feeding or no at all
4. Can you go over your lighting schedule
5. How often do you prune your tank so I can come over and pick up some scraps lol
6. How do you keep your sand so clean
Just a few for now

thanks trueblackpercula!!! am flattered that I can still inspire veteren reefers like you!
I will try to answer all your question with the best of my ability!
1. I switch to kent marine reef salt last Christmas as this was the one on sale! prior to this I was using IO.
2. calcium demand is kept in checked via dosing I use BRS two part dosing solution.
3. am not sure if you can call it target feeding, anyways I feed the system twice a week with NutraPlus Complete Feed by Nutra-Kol during this time the return pump and power head is turned off. All I know is that all the polyps are fully extended by the time I turn on all the pumps again!
4. I've always played around with this, so as of today I have the 2 RB on for 2 hours, then 4 ATI Blue Plus for 1 hour by it self then the entire ATI fixture 4 ATI Blue Plus and 2 ATI Coral Plus is on for 4 hours, then the 4 ATI Blue Plus for 1 hour by it self again then back to the 2 RB again for 2 hours, finally two coralife moonlight is on when ever the rest of the light is turned off.
5. lol! that a good one! would you like to come over i've been procrastinating lately, the system is in need of a good pruning! jokes aside, I would flip frags whenever I brake them during the maintenance/water change above and beyond that when the folks that come to pick up the frags am always willing to cut a few, really this is the extent of my coral pruning!
6. you wouldn't believe unless you see it! the sand is kept this white by my two clowns! they mix the sanded more than my two wrasse could, I also have a couple of dosen various sand sifting snails!
wow! till the next set of questions!!!!!

Looking awesome !

Thanks Dwayne! only wish my system has as much color as your system.

Thanks for all the answers and I wish you all the best with such an amazing tank. I also use two part dosing and find it to be easy and reliable. My lighting I have been questioning as I feel like I want to change over to LEDs but I just can't get away from my 150vho and 400 watt halide. What are you thoughts bout this new lighting for your tank? Well in any case your tank is truly a work of art and TOTM for sure....send. Me a PM when you have some frags would love to own some of your corals as they are truly amazing....

I personally have never used VHO, but from talking to experience reefers that have used them before, they've always told me nothing can replace them! in a good way. As per the MH I know the color that you get from them is not the same as the T5's or LED some corals like MH better and some like the T5/LED's better. As per the new lighting in my system ie. T5/RB LED I like thats I have a more even lighting as well as I can play with the T5 bulb color combination a little bit more, less heat is also a plus! Being even mention to be a TOTM in the same sentence is a great recognition on it self thank you!!!! Hit me up when ever your in Toronto! Am sure I can spare a few frags!!!

I second that :)

Thanks CeeGee!!!!

Thanks psteeleb!!! your system looks very nice as well! I like the video that you post as well!!! As per your question regarding the ballast am not sure as am using an ATI Fixture.

As it stand are you only using 4 bulbs? In my case am using 6 bulbs plus 2 4ft Reef Brite all blue and one of them with XHO.

I have 4 T5's plus 48 royal blue and 22 cool white 3 watt LED's and will be adding another 22 8kish whites this week.

About 1 1/2 years ago I was considering going LED's suplimented with 10-12k T5's as a high noon effect. After trying it I wasn't happy with the missing color spectrums so mixed in some other T5's. Unfortunatly I found out that with my high rock pennisula and short hood I don't have enough space for single spectrum bulbs to blend. So I was looking for a broader based spectrum in a single T5 bulb (blue, white and red). The ATI Coral+ T5's came in the other day and I can say I am very pleased with the results.

As far as am concern your absolutely correct regarding the ATI Coral+ specially when you supplement it with a whole whack of blue/royal blue LED.

How is do you find the growth in your current T5/LED setup?

All I can say is WOW! Ok I can say a little more. I have read this thread front and back multiple times and found it after making the decision of setting up a peninsula tank. You pretty much solidified the fact of a peninsula tank. Absolutely gorgeous and I have taken so many ideas, just hope I am patient enough to not rush the process. Hoping you wouldn't mind if I sent you a PM with some questions on setup, product selections, etc. Once again, best I have seen.

thanks for the kind words citodickson!!! Just remember in no time your system will be just as full if not fuller!!! By all means shoot me your question or feel free to post them here, am sure your questions will help members in the future as-well.

It´s been awhile since the last update Sweet.

Can we have an update?

This peninsula tank has grown into an awesome reef gem! I´m curious to see how it continues to progress... :)

Thanks,
André

Officially want tear my tank apart and re-aquascape. Have the same set-up as you but my aquascaping is nowhere near as awesome as yours!!!!

Thanks for the kind words André!

The system is still plugging away to the point that I had to brake apart a few colonies as to me the system looks over grown. The colonies that was taken out was also starting to effect the growth of the other corals.

I'm looking forward to an update too! This is one of my favorite tanks. :)

Thanks Kaserpick! will post a few update photos shortly.

Thanks Dipan00! am sure once your system is filled with corals that would look even better.

Remember my system looks like this at one point in time.

Here are a few update photos..... all taken under two ATI Coral+ and two Reef Brite one XHO and one normal output both are all blue.

IMG_0004%2520%2528small%2529.jpg

this one was given to me as RR Avengers, as you can see it's completely different to what you would typically see when you google RR avengers - will ask Jay again to verify........

IMG_0006%2520%2528small%2529.jpg

this one is suppose to be RR Red Dragon.....

IMG_0005%2520%2528small%2529.jpg

this is what I was able to save about a year ago from my old blue tort. If I didn't know any better I would say this is not the same coral....

IMG_0012%2520%2528small%2529.jpg

and this one is the RR Purple Dragon not purple at all.... this is more of my system than anything else as it was purple when I first got it..... hopefully it will bounce back.....

Hi Sweet,

Thank you for the update!

Beautiful pieces you have there but this one:

Avengers or not, it´s delicious! Well done!

Would love to see some top downs if you have the time.

Keep the updates coming!
