Sea Fan

Sea Fan

Thanks, there are 3 purple fans and 1 yellow fan not shown that is about 8 x8, the purples are about 3 x4 +/-.

They don't do much in the tank but look good. If I can just keep the hermits from making a contest to see which one can climb up the fastest......

Really nice. I love the "Acan Garden"

Where did you get the sea fans? I have been trying to find some but was under the belief they were illegal to get. I have only been able to find the purple gorgonians from the Atlantic.

Thanks...nice tank

Camera

Camera

The camera is a Canon G-7. Taken with underwater mode<br>

Tangers, good to see you made it safe and sound to your new home, best of luck..

Florida sea fans are a big "NO-NO". Hopefully they are from aquacultured rock (which is legal)

Sea Fans

Sea Fans

My seafans were collected from the island of Haiti and legally imported into the U.S.

You can also Google Sea Fans and find suppliers who also sell Sea Fans via mail order out of Ft. Lauderdale, ie: Aquatic Connection, Foster and Smith is another

From Fish and Wildlife:

"Commercially and Recreationally Prohibited Species
Possession, harvest, destruction, and sale of fresh, uncleaned, or uncured sea fan, hard or stony coral or fire coral is prohibited (does not apply to such species harvested outside state waters or adjacent federal waters and lawfully entering the state through interstate or international commerce and with acceptable proof of origin documenting the initial place of harvest and original sales transaction)."

Equipment Set Up

Equipment Set Up

Lighting: 2- 250 watt MH 20K XM, with Blueline Ballast

24 Feet of VHO Blue Actinic with Ice Cap Ballast

Night light blue LED strip from Ikea

2-Ice Cap fans inside hood

1 Dolphin ES3500 Pump runs the whole system

Since all my equipment is located outside, the only heat build up is from the lighting which the fans take care of.

I have tried to design my system to be as maintenance free and automated as possible and to drain and do water changes all outside.

Chiller set at 77 degree's

300 watt heater in sump
