My 130 Gal Reef Build

nice start. 6 foot tank to start gives you some error room when first starting off... I ran a 125dt and a 55g sump for about 10yrs. the combo worked flawless and complimented each other nicely....good luck with the build

Got my skimmer today

Next big thing is figuring out a sump. I'm thinking of a 55 gal tank but usually they're too narrow. I like the build of a 40 gal breeder but I think it's too small. I want bigger. Hopefully won't have to get a custom built one.

It should be crazy good, you've had 9 years to research. Good luck with the tank.

True... :)

Although in 2004 when I had my first tank, an acrylic 150. It came with everything including an old school wet dry sump, haha. I had that for a couple years then ended up having to sell my house. Lots of big changes in my life at that time.

I'm now in a situation where I'm able to get back into it and am so excited. My other half is still on the fence but she'll come around :) .....hopefully

That is one big ol tank. Love seeing these build's because it just lets me dream of what I can have when I have my own house. :) Thanks for sharing this stuff, im tagging along for good.

A buddy of mine who got out of the hobby years ago gave me all his old rock and other misc stuff. Brought it home and cleaned it all up. What a pal!

Got another goody :)

Also did a very rough mock up of the plumbing. On the full siphon, does it matter how far up or down it is on the drain pipe?

Love the overflow box - nice job!!! Have you considered a second over flow on the other side of the tank?

No, this one should flow enough. I'm not gonna have a ton of gph for the return pump. For now what I've got to start with is a mag 9.5. I'll have most of my movement in the DT via one mp40 and two tunze 6060s.

Got some more of the stand done. Put on the top and faced the front using birch wood. Also forgot to add these pics of how I cut the holes in the tank.

Nice! Definitely brace that stand on each end. Put a piece of 3/4 plywood covering the entire end top to bottom on both sides. I have a 125g same dimensions and before I did that to my stand it was VERY wobbly.

Some more progress. Ready for detailing, water proofing, and staining.

The gap is going to be covered up with a piece that I'm going to shoot on the back of one of the doors.

Here's the stain I tested on a couple pieces of scrap. This is what a door would look like. Two different colors being it's two different types of wood.
