my 15 gallon tank blog WITH PICS

Well since my 24 gallon aquapod thread was hijacked I am ogin gto begin my 15 gallon thread. All pictures will be updated regularly. A of right now, I will be posting the pics tomorrow afternon around 4pm est.

OK onto my tank.
This tank is just a basic 15 long but the back has been painted blue. I have a canopy with 150 watts of VHO lighting on it, and 15 watts of t-5 actininc and 2 moonlights. I will be adding another 15watt t-5 within the month (once funds come in again) to better provide for the suplementation. I have a CPR aquafuge running, however, i am using carbon, and a filter pad instead of runnng it as a fuge. I am trying to keep it as low budget as possible.
STOCKING LIST:
Fish:
2 False Perculas
1 green chromis (im adding 2 more next week when i go to the beach to catch them) they are local to me so i might as well catch them.
1 local gobie/blenny, im not sure what he is but will post a pic anyways
1 yellow watchman gobie
Inverts:
20 reef hermits, mixed between blue legs, scarlets, green legs (never had aproblem with them eating corals), and the ones with the large grey claw with tiger stripes on their legs.
1 red fire shrimp, cleans everything i put into the tank, corals, fish, crabs, snails, you name it he cleans it
25 small reef safe snails, mixed species
2 small brittle stars, but the are hundreds more i guess as these came as hitchhickers on the rock)
1 soon to be fighting conch (saturday)
Corals:
Many different zoanthids frags and colonys
Blastomussa welsi and the other kind
a candy cane coral
ricordea yumas
regular mushrooms
dying brain coral (dont know what is wrong with it)
xenia
sinularia leather
toadstool leather
soon to be kenya tree leather (saturday)
Lighting Cycle:
in the morning, the actinics turn on around 7am (half an hour before i get up)
then around 7:30 am the vho's turn on and stay on until about 6pm (4 hours after i get home)
around 9 pm (when i useually go to bed), the actinics go off and the moon lights are the only light going into the tank

ill have pics up tomorrow sometime around 4pmish est so be looking. please only post if have some constructive criticism or wish to ask a question. my other thread or blog was hijack with photos of other peoples tanks, and specs about theirs. this is something iwant ot have going for others to learn and gain insight from, also for me to learn from my mistakes. thanks for looking and look for the pics tmmrw

ok here are some fo the pics. i have to take more when i get more time. also, can someone resize the and repost them for me please? im not savy about that.

thank you i lvoe this tank. as i sit looking at it i am thinking that i liek the way vho's look more than my aquapod's halides, and my blasto colonies love this. they are fully open and swaying back and forth in the gentle current. anyone have any suggestions for me on this tank?

tommorrow, i plan to add 2 more chromis and a few local corals, all will be local caught under the legal limit and legal species, i dont like to do stupid things by collection illegal corals.

That's a nice looking tank. Do you have a sump? That's quite a bio-load you are adding for a 15gl. with such a little amount of rock. Shame on me to nag like an old hag. I just hate for you to run into problems like hair and cyano blooms down the road.

i have never had any problems with this amount of stocking. i have forgone the addition of the 2 other chromis and will be adding a local atlantic pygmy angel to this tank as my showpiece resident. if he begins to nibble on the corals time to go into the aquapod without corals. no im not running a sump. all of my tank have never had a sump and do just fine. no protien skimmer also does just fine. i run carbon, filterpads, and some phospate remover ever other week for 2 days to help keep the algea down. i dont overfeed, i do partial water changes regularly, and everything is alive and flouishing. ill post some new pics tonight when i get hom. i got a few new corals yesturday.

lookin good u commented on my 12 nano with the 150 hqi now i get to see yours. i have a spare tank like that laying around maybe ill set it up now that i see urs lol

awesome tank, how long has it been running?

doesnt look like you were on a budget! looks like you were on a coral spree!

ok today i added illegal corals to my tank (i didnt realize they wer eillegal unti l i looke donline to see about them). they are gorgonians. I fi had known I never owuld have taken them. so mods dont close this thread. i am admitting i now know they are illegal but didnt when i took em. they look awsoem though. ill have updated pics tmmrw night when i get home from my reef meeting.

Hey there--very pretty nano! I recently set up a 10g. reef (adding to my 29g. and 58g.). My story is a little crazy and frankly I'm surprised everything is doing so well. My 29g. was an anemone tank--all right, so my plain ol' saddle was getting way too big for his britches so I said "ok, fine, I'll put you in a 10g. by yourself so you can hang out". I put the saddle in a 10g. and he happily grew and grew. Now he was getting so large that the top of him was curling so that he wouldn't be out of the water. Uh-oh, now what? So, I decided I had better put him back in the 29g. and move some of the frags. and other little things out of the way of the saddle. The obvious choice was to make the 10g. a "real nano". So, the saddle is in the 29g. with LTA's (very beautiful ones) and the 10g. has got a very small yellow leather, a baby xenia, 1 small rock of zoos, and some green stars. I also have some snails, a banded coral shrimp, and one lonely little pj cardinal. Unbelievably, everything is doing well--so far (knock on wood). I would like to add a few small things (maybe a firefish or another frag.) but I'm afraid of overloading this nano. What's your thought? Also, when you do a water change, how often do you do one and how much do you change? Any ideas/thoughts would be welcome. Oh, I don't have a digi. cam so I can't send you any pictures of mine. Maybe some day...

i dont do any waterchanges EVER!!!. i know some ppunk is goone flame me for this but idont care. my tank is perfectly fine. my corals are growing lie crazy, my fish are as healthy as they ever were, and my pair of false percs are getting ready to lay eggs :) !!! um for your 10 gallon, only keep a few small fish, maybe a gobie, and a pair of true percs, false percs, or a small sixline wraase and a firefish. but nothing more than that. um, i would put small zoos, shrooms, and maybe a few acros in there if you have the lighting for them. good luck

Thanx for your input. After thinking about this I think I'll only add one fish, either a blennie or a purple firefish. Blennies are so cute I might have to get one of those. Have a great day!

you'll get more pics too, i moved alot fo coralsi back into the 24 gallon aquapod i modified. but i left the blasto's and most of the xenia in there. ill have new pics soon
