My 168g Cube Build!

Like the dimensions of the new tank good luck with the build

Thank you. The dimension are almost perfect for the area I'm putting it in. My only dilemma will be if I'm going to move my fish room, which is currently in my boiler room, to directly below my display tank.

The upside will be the ease of operation and placement. The downside will be I won't be able to do easy water changes. Right now all I need to do is open 1 valve, close 1 valve, then turn on my return pump via the apex to flush the sump water out. Then turn on a different pump to feed the sump with new water. Due to it's location, I can't run a pvc line from the potential new station.

Decisions decisions...

Ok first hiccup. Looks like a heating vent is in the way

Build a new stand, 2x4's with quality fasteners and 5/8 Or 3/4 ply for good shear resistance. It'll only cost 60 bucks, or whatever, and a weekend of assembly and paint and you'll know you won't have 168 gallons of water on the floor in the future. When there are lives (and floors) on the line it pays to overbuild a little.

Haven't been able to work on my build much. I'm an air traffic controller. The vast majority of the country doesn't realize that many of our controller workforce is about to retire. Back in 1981 Ronald Reagan fired the controllers after they went on strike. Now the replacement controllers are coming up on mandatory retirement age. So that means I'm working overtime every week.

Was able to demo some more of the area where my "fish room" will be. After going back and forth I am now going to gut the small closet next to this area and integrate it into the fish room.

Going to leave the side door and have the main door on another wall for ease of access anywhere in the room. I plan to build a water station in this room as well.

Picked up a 75g tank from the garage sale Vinny mentioned in another post. Dimensions are perfect for the fish room. How can you pass up 25 bucks for a sump!

Definitely will be an amazing tank when your done.

Thanks! I'm going slow and being very methodical. I'm a novice woodworker but I youtube anything and everything. I plan on making a box that will open up so I can screw the apex on it and hide wires behind it yet still be accessible. I also plan on adding my Ipad to the system on an outlet with a usb port. Water changes will be as easy as turn 1 valve off and 1 on, then turning on the return pump to pump out the old water. I'm going to use gravity for adding fresh saltwater by putting the water containers near the roof of the room.

It's going to be tight but I want to put the frag tank I bought from Wally years ago in there as well. I'm going to feed it and the display tank with the Reef Octopus Varios-6 DC pump. I can't find much info on the pump but what little I've read and watched on youtube it's very comparable to the Ecotech Vectra pump but it's apex controllable.

I'm all over the place on this post! LOL

Gfci's installed and one outlet with USB ports so I can run a tablet for my apex.

I keep reminding myself that part of the fun of a new system is actually building it. I may not have a tank displaying corals and fish but I know that I built the walls. I ran the electric. I designed the layout.

Just ordered 100lbs of brs dry Pukani rock. I hope it's enough. I'm counting on it's lack of weight to make up for mass.
