My 180 slice of the ocean

I figured i should probably post up my build here so i can document my progress. Let me know what you think.

Standard AGA 180 6x2x2

Outer Orbit 3x150w MH 4x65w PC

ASM g3 with Sedra 9000 upgrade and gatevalve.

Mag12 return pump.

Thats the major stuff. There is tons of others, but i don't really want to type all that. On with the pictures.

My 46 bowfront. It looks a mess cuz i just moved it from where the 180 is going.

Here is the empty wall where it will go. I have already replaced the outlet with a GFCI outlet, so don't worry.

Here it is being delivered. I bought it off a local friend of mine who had this 180 setup as his frag tank, and a 215 as the main tank. It was getting to be too much for him (As you can see from the condition of the tank) so he decided to sell it off. Luckily i was the first one he told, and i jumped on it.

Yeah it looked pretty bad. There was about 100 pounds of rock in the tank, completely covered in red algae. Its all out front drying off in the for a while.

The ASM G3 with Sedra 9000 and a gate valve. Think this will be enough for a 180?

Here is about 1/3 of the rock that came with the tank. The rest was in the sump with no lights, so it had no algae at all. Thats all in a tub with water till it gets ready to go to the tank. This stuff is going to sit outside till im sure everything is dead. Its been a little over a week out there right now. Oh and before someone says it, Yes i know i need to rake my yard.

I painted the back black. It doesn't look that great, but the guys helping me out had to hurry, so it was a quicky.

Here is the stand with the sump in it. Sump is a 40 breeder that was origionally going to be my upgrade tank, but i came across this deal. The stand was just like a 1/4 inch too narrow. So i had to take a router to it to trim out the little bit needed to get the sump to fit.

Here is the light. Outer Orbit 3x150w MH 4x65w PC
I know some people will say a 150w MH for a 24" deep tank is pushing it, But i mainly enjoy LPS and Softies, with some easy SPS every now and then, so im not too worried about it. Plus this is what he used to grow out SPS when he had the tank, so i know it will work.

Thats all the pictures i have for now. I ordered a Bulk Reef Supply 75gpd RODI unit, and a ReefKeeper Lite. I already got the RODI unit, and the reefkeeper is supposed to be here today. Tank is already filled up and im just adding salt. I bought a bucket of salt thinking it made 200 gallons, and it only makes 160. So tomorrow im going to go get some more salt. I have sand in it too. I have 2 tunze 6100 in it, and 2 Koralia 4's. Ill have to get some more pictures up in a minute, but thats pretty much where it stands right now.

Yeah well origionally i was just going to spend nearly a grand on setting up a 50 breeder and a skimmer and light and Rodin unit, but I got offered this for just a little bit more than what was already going to spend. Now my girl is happy cuz she can get more fish, and I'm happy cuz I got a 180.

My reefkeeper was supposed to be delivered today, but being almost 10pm already, I'm guessing it's not going to be tonight. That sucks cuz I have to be out of town almost all day tomorrow, band ups just leaves the pachage out on the porch for the weather to get to. I guess I'll have to have someone check on it a few times during the day to save my package.

New setup looking like your off to a good start! You're gonna love the bigger tank size. Have pretty much the same setup, 180 aga and an outer orbit 3 x 150w ..... when I started I didn't think I was going to do much sps and wasn't worried about more light than that ..... but got a few and have gotten hooked. I want to upgrade my light soon but for now it is doing just fine with a variety of sps in the top half of the tank ... and growing a large clam and an LTA on the sandbed just fine too. I think for what you have you are going to be very happy with that light!

So i haven't updated this in a while. I bought a 2 spot bristle tooth tang from petco that had ich, thinking i could nurse it back to health and put it in my 180. Well that didn't work, and just infected my tank with ich. I finished setting up the tank, let it cycle and started to add fish. I added a little fast (Read.... lot fast) and had about 13-15 fish within a month. Ich killed off a yellow eye kole tang, which caused a ammonia spike. The ammonia spike coupled with my fish having ich already killed off almost everything i had. I lost....

Yellow eye kole tang
Sailfin tang
Naso tang
Molly Miller Blenny
2x Cleaner wrasses
Oc. clown (My first fish, had him for over 3 years now)
Domino Damsel
Blue/green chromis
2x cleaner shrimp

Im left with a 6+ inch blue hippo tang who has recovered from near death from the ich, a yellow tang that is the same way, and a single blue green chromis. Through all of this, my corals did amazing. Everything has grown in leaps and bounds, including my brain coral. So now im letting the ich run its course, till everything appears normal. I know ill never get rid of it, and treating is out of the question becuase catching them in this tank is almost impossible. ill wait a month or two before i add anything else.

Here is a (very crappy) recent pic of the tank. Shot with my Iphone, but it gets the point across.

All 3 of my fish are in this pic.
