Hey guys, well i have been looking around these forums and when an opportunity came i had to take it.

Our current tank is a 90 gallon aga... BUT

We are adding a 191 gallon custom acrylic tank. 8' X 23" X 20"
The main display is going to 191 gallons. The refugium is going to be around 35 gallons, and the sump wil be another 40-50 gallons depending on the design.

Our skimmer will be our current PM bullet 3 skimmer. A return will be a sequence Dart. A closed loop has not been decided yet.

Our lights will be 3- 250 watt MH 12k reeflux bulbs.

I will take current pictures of what we have now, but stupid Vista i need to get new software, but I decided to create a thread as the planning stages and building to stay current.

Yea, I see alot of threads that are created after its built. And it kinda seems like within like a weekend they get everything done. But here is some pictures i found on my other computer since my laptop is locked.

Its being placed here, where the 90 is located with bookshelves and other things placed next to it.

i will have diagrams of the tank done hopefully this weekend.

Alright guys we are looking at a profilux controller for the system at the moment. I will be going away to college in about half a year to WVU so I want a controller to be able to changed from a distance. My family is otherwise clueless about aquariums.

For the acrylic should i use 1/2" for everything and could i use 3/8" for the top part eurobracing. Or should i use 1/2" for that too. Also should the bracing be made of one whole piece or a few smaller ones.

Hey guys sorry about the prolonged response to the thread. So we are still planning and making sure we have everything right and double checking. Also Im trying to get my sketchup stuff working so i can post a design of the tank and plumbing but its not working oh so well at the moment.

But the tank is now:
8' long
23" high
22" deep

Return pump will be a reeflo dart
Skimmer: bullet 3 running off of a Pan world 150 ps
Lights: 3- 250 watt MH 12K reeflux

Its taking so long is because we are building almost everything, from the tank to the sorrunding area in the room, and everything else. Also we are going to be building a large Kalk reactor/stirrer, and a large fluidized bed reactor.

Does it matter if its square or not?

I would seriously consider at least looking into glass. Acrylic WILL scratch over time no matter how careful you are. Fish, snails, sand storms, anything can scratch it, even if it doesnt involve you.

Scratches can be buffed out pretty easily.

Yeah, after draining the tank. . . . Doesnt seem very practical to me though.

Yea, but for the price to have a tank built in starfire and such will be more expensive then acrylic. And we have all the materials to build the acrylic tank. After i get out of college in 4-5-6 years hahaha i will most likely be getting a new tank.

But I will look into it thanks for the input.

Does anyone know a good website with details on a kalk reactor. We will start building in about a week or two. I am going to visit WVU this weekend and we are going to probably buy the materials this weekend.

We are also going to build a fuge and a sump out of 3/8"
