I don't run the skimmer very wet. I tend to set the skimmer to bubble near the the top of the collection cup and it cakes the inside of it very well. I clean it once a week and the crud and goo is alway about 1/4" think on the inner walls of the skimmer head. I probably pull about 6 cups of good solid green stinky goo out of my collection resivor a week. I know my skimmer is working well if I get a super strong wiff of it as soon as I start to pour it out.

As far as the glass goes I try to magnet scrape the glass every 3-4 days. I bought this tank used and the people that had it before me scratched it up really bad. So I have to clean the inside with a razor blade every three weeks or so to get the algea out of scratches.

I have the same problem on my 180, there is one deep scratch inperticular that is a real eyesore if I don't get in there from time to time and clean it out.
