My 220 Acrylic Build (Going to take some time)

What do you want to keep in it?

I am mainly going to keep softies and maybe down the road dip into LPs and sps. I currently have 2 D120's on my 90 reef, and I am getting good growth on my corals.

Snake1: I like MH although I don't like the power bill that comes with them.

The light hoohoodillio and I were looking at were 2 32" led pendants that put out 240 watts per pendant. They are full spectrum. I will have to link them later this evening.

Nice setup and I'm digging the pink lol, If going LED make sure it's dimmable. A tank that size I think LED's would be best but for me it would be a good idea if you can squeeze in some T5's for some diffuse light.

We are in talks of him doing a herbie type overflow, but found out it's not really a simple set it once and forget it type method so looking for other options now.

We aren't sure what size pipe to go with yet, but thinking either 1" or 1 1/4'' would be sufficient

I've used the bean/herbie style overflows on several tanks, and have helped a few others install them as well. In my experience, they are as close to set it and forget it as you can get. I had used several other methods before coming across that style, and I would never consider going back.

The drain pipe size will have a lot to do with what type of overflow you use, and the gph of your return pump. For your reference, I currently run a Mag 18 return with 1" drains, and they easily handle that flow rate with the beananimal method.

I think you'll be in good hands with CrazyEyes' help. Let me know if you need any other help or opinion.

Lol yed the pink is awesome, very different. The led lights I am looking at are dimmable, and you can change the spectrum that they put out. They also come with a remote and a timer built in. They are quite attractive. I will have to link the web site tonight when I get home. I will have to check out the radeons.

He was going to do red and when I saw the pink can I half joked about doing it in pink just cause, well screw it pink is good! Plane then suggested he would do it to donate some of the profits to breast cancer foundations from the corals that would eventually be fragged and sold.

I think we are in great hands, the knowledge in this forum is a life (and pocket) saver!

Not sure what you have for plumbing but, I've got some plumbing related stuff leftover that I'll bring over and if you can use it then by all means you can have it. I was going to return it but I've gotten things from Lowes, Home depot and Ace, and trying to figure out what came from where is just not worth it, I'd rather just possibly help someone out.

That would be awesome, and much appreciated! Maybe this weekend we can set something up. We just need to figure out what size to use in the overflow.

So I was looking at the Ecotech radeons and they state one pendant for every foot....so I was thinking that's a bit much. Any thoughts??? I figured 3 would do the trick. Now another concern is that the the tank is 30 tall and Eco was stating that the pro series is for the deep tank like 30 and up..does anyone have a bit more info or have them on a large tank?

I think they cover 1x1 for high density SPS, maybe. I believe they cover a 2x2 area pretty handily based on what I've read.

I know BobbyV has 3 over his 300DD and likes them.

Well here is an update of the build. Thanks for the help form Crazy Eyes and Hoohoodillio (Roommate) the plumbing is about half way done. we are going with the BeanAnimal system. Tomorrow we are going to finish the plumbing and run the system. Check/fine tune the plumbing, look for plumbing leaks and so on. Again Thank you Crazy Eyes for the assistance!!!!!! If you had not of came over today I wouldn't have gotten this far lol. After the plumbing its on to taking the belt sander to the hood and stand, so I can get rid of the crappy paint the previous owner painted on it. I am thinking of doing white on inside of the stand. On the outside I have decided to use a stain. I will have updates tomorrow with a surprise.

It was nice meet the two of you. Looking forward to seeing this thing running tomorrow. I think you'll be very happy with it.

Couple more up-dates here. Finished the plumbing for the tank. CrazyEyes came over to make sure we did not screw it up lol. Here are a couple of pics of the plumbing (dry fitted).

A couple more pictures of the plumbing, also the sump that I bought had VERY sharp baffles! The guy who built the sump did not sand or bevel the edges. I know its kind of hard to see, but there are a couple of before and after shots. I took airline tubing and slid it over the edge after cutting the tubing in half. Slowly coming together. I did a water test on the sump as well. I was unable to finish my surprise for today's update. Maybe next week.

Just my thought....But maybe a one way check valve after the return pump valve...So you dont overflow you sump when the pump is turned off....

Yea I might throw one on. The thought did cross my mind. Although the water will not sit that high, like in the picture. That is just a water test. It will only get to about half way up the side. So it shouldn't overflow. All precautions will be considered and installed where needed. Do the one way return check valves restrict flow at all? Or create a lot if back pressure?
