Are you sure that either the Emp or the Achilles cause the change? My watanabei changed without other dominant fish. Suggest to get another male Japanese masked when this one becomes a full female, and keep the Emp.

The masked have a smaller female that he chase all the time and he is not fully change to female he just not as bright.

Some of my friends have their male crosshatch change from male to female too. Some of my friends have all their female Xhatch change to male because it the most dominant fish in the tank.

Specific to the masked angel, I've read that they live in harems and one male is usually accompanied by multiple females. My 3 yr old watanabei hasn't returned to its full male color since he changed over two years ago. I just have one female in the tank and he chases her all the time too.

I've had Bellus and Spotbreast Genicanthus angels, change F>M>F>M, all because (IMO) of which ever group had the most dominate Male... I got rid of my large M Lamarck, and large M Bellus, because I preferred the Zebra male, which gets along fine with other Genicanthus females

So are you saying the tension between the males from different groups is what's causing the sex change?

Similar experiences here with Genicanthus angels. Makes it tough.

So what your suggestion sir ?
Should get another female or get rid of the aggresive emperor?

My experience with P. Imperator is that once they reach a certain level of maturity, they want to own the tank. (Mine is about 4.5 years old).

I move my emperor to the sump for 2 days now and my Japanese masked is the dominant fish in the tank even bully my bandit.

So should I get a juvenile emperor Xmas island instead? The reason I ask I have a few friends with emp that start as a juvenile and years later they still timid at least for emp standard. My only issue is that they don't have same color intensity as adult xmi wild caught.

Thanks
