my 300g reef build.

i wasnt planning on it, even though ive heard it easy.

of course the feed line fittings for the skimmer are metric, luckily they included metric to british adaptors.

The skimmer is up and running along with the carbon gfo reactor. I still need to update firmware on the apex and do some wire organization.

Nice start. Don't make the mistake I did and skip the QT tank. With a tank this size you will regret it!

i have 2 - 30gals for qt/hospital or i could use my 75 once i move the corals.. the 30's will be easier. i had an ich outbreak before. it was a nightmare and i lost 4 of my favorite fish. wont happen again.

note to self. dont put peaceful wrasse in with a sixline... doesnt work out well. they are mean little friggers.

looking good so far i have the same exact tank but on mine i did a corner l skimmer box with a bean animal style overflow and love it glw the build

So your sixline is mean?

very.. he has harassed and killed 2-scotts fairy wrasses twice his size. i felt really bad. i would really like to get some more wrasses but not sure what to do. maybe keep the sixline ib the refugium.. idk.

My sixline harassed my flame angel. ended up stressing him to death. anyways, i believe most of the wrasses that belong to the Pseudocheilinus family end up getting aggressive as they mature. I had a Mystery Wrasse that was the most peaceful fish when he was small, as he grew he became aggressive. Like I said, the wrasses belonging to that family end up getting to be aggressive as they mature, but all fish are different. I'm just speaking from my experience. If he gets or is aggressive, just put him in time-out in the sump lol.

Great build and really neat fish room. May i recommend doing a quick search on here regarding the dry BRS rock? I am setting up a tank and was advised by a few reefers to either dose lanthium chloride or rinse the rock in muriatic acid or it will leach PO4 for a very long time.

ty...its coming along. plan on moving the rest of the rock and most fish this weekend.

ive read that about brs rock. i think it was mainly the pukani rock. i have a mix of reefsaver, fiji and live florida rock. i tested the p04 about 2 weeks after i started it up and the reading on a hanna uls meter was 0. granted i only have 50lbs of dry rock i added to the system and the other 150lbs is live rock. im going to use most of new dry rock for base rock. i specificly ordered large pieces.

i used 90lbs of reef saver rock when i started my 125g a few years ago. i never, that i noticed, had a p04 problem. maybe i got lucky. po4 never tested higher then .05.

even though the phos was still 0 i decided to add 1 cup of phos remover and 1 cup of carbon to my media reactors.

i might have to switch back to reef crystals. im using just plain i/o and ive noticed calcium levels on the low side, 380 and mag at 1250. i have to dose calcium and mag immediately to get level where i want them . alk is good at around 10 on a fresh mix.

tested water last night. i think the tank is ready.

ammo-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-.5 redsea
phos-0 hanna ulr
saltininty-1.025
calcium-400
alk-9
mag-1350

i have the skimmer set to slightly wet skimming. might turn it up some.

i added a few very small crabs and snails also a few days ago. they are still alive, so thats good. most of the detritus is gone except for a little on the sand..

the hard part is going to be stacking the rock with the tank full. i dont like to do it that way but becuase im using rock from 3 tanks i have no choice.

update. aquascape is complete, all corals and fish are in. i think it turned out nice. very simple. i made a lot of hiding places and some tunnels. i will take some pictures tonight.

i have an order of fish and corals coming thursday. fish are going into my 75g quarantine and i will just dip the corals in coral rx and flatworm exit. hopefully they dont forget to add heatpacks. its cold up here.

thanks guys. i like the way it turned out too.

i dont know why my iphone pictures makes the tank look so blue. its nowhere near that blue in person. these pictures were with the actinics only on.

all the fish arrived in good shape and not frozen, thank god. it was -15 yesterday morning.
i received 5 out of the 7 corals.. apparently the other 2 were out of stock.

i ordered 3 more yellow tangs, 1 sailfin tang, and 2- female bluethroat triggers.

after these are out of quarantine i would like to get 1-blonde naso tang and 4-anthias then be done for a while.

Wow your setup is outstanding. Aquascape looks great I would have to say so etching like this or 220 would be a dream to own. Until then I'll drool over the ones here.
