My 40br sps at 18 months

Just thought I'd share some pics of my sps tank. Sorry they're not the best quality as shot with my cell phone. 40br display w/29g sump/fuge,Reef Octopus skimmer,gfo/carbon reactor,6x39w ATI(4 blue+ 2 purple+)w/LET mirror4 reflectors,kor1400 & MP10,mag7 return,manual dosing 2part. comments are appreciated.

how do you like the bulb combo? I just started running this combo and I totally fell in love with it, Im doing kz fiji purples instead, but damn is it nice!
 
I really like it-tried lots of others like aqblue sp,G.E.6500k,coral plus,etc.. been running this combo for a year now. gonna go to a 120g soon & will be running t-5 & 250w M.H.'s.

sounds awesome! 120s are perfect dimensions if you have the space. I only have room for a 40 so Im kinda stuck with it :)
 
Beautiful display mate, i was running a KZ purple with 3 x B+ as supplements to a 250W radium and it certainly made pinks and purples pop more to the eye even when the halide was on. Do you find the purple bulbs look a lot brighter to your eye than the B+ as i did even though it doesn't indicate the actual PAR being delivered is greater. In short the purple bulb will still make your pinks, reds etc look better to the eye even when running halides - just giving my experience since you mentioned the upgrade. Considering how nice this display is i will definitely be following your 120 build :thumbsup:
 
Are you getting good growth with this bulb combo? Might switch to this for my next combo. Also, what size is your sump and where did you get it? And what size octopus skimmer are you running?
 
Almost all my corals started as frags(about 2") except the 2 caps. I am fragging alot to keep them away from each other-or moving them apart. My montipora digitata's grow like weeds(1-2" a month)along with my hydnophora. most of the others average at least 1" a month. add alot of ca/alk to maintain levels(Ca 430-450) & Alk (8-8.6) w/Salifert kits. I use 2.5g jugs to manually dose these w/2g a day evaporation(2 heaping tsp) to each gallon. alk at night,ca during day. gonna get dosing pumps soon. Skimmer is the ne150 w/mod & The 2 purple+ definatly put out enough par & the colors are great. keep in mind the pics are with either blue+ OR Purple+ on. pics are way oversaturated with both on. it's way better in person. Tank didn't really take off untill the 6 month mark. 2 best pieces of equipment to have before you start off is a good r.o. unit & a refractometer-just my opinion.

Honestly i've never tested for po4. started off with dryrock & some liverock that was sitting in styro boxes for 3 months. ran the rock for 3 months doing 25% w/c's a week. then started running lg amounts of gfo untill algae went away-then ran light amounts & seeded with about 10lbs of cured coralined liverock. then started adding sps's. haven't ran gfo for about 8 months-been running polypads in a reactor with very low flow to keep water polished-change out every 2-3 weeks. Do 8g w/c's every other week. don't really have any issues with algae anymore. have about 25 mex turbo's/astrea's in there at all times. I feed once a day sm amount of Pe Mysis & spirulina enhanced brine shrimp. I clean the glass every other day. I can pretty much look at my tank & know what's wrong-been doing this since about 1995.
