My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

Tank has been cycled for about a week. I really did not think it would cycle so fast. So I was caught off guard a bit and did not start QTing any fish. So I have a cycled tank but no fish to put into it. I hope to have my fish QT system up and running by the end of the weekend with a few fish from my current tank in there QTing. Here are a few pictures with the solar tubes. Now that summer is almost here they are getting very bright.

looks to be an asparagopsis species, very invasive and not fun to deal with. I would siphon it out asap just to be safe.

that's cyano make sure there is enough flow at the areas that it is growing phosphate remover will help with also water changes but flow in the tank is one important factor if you run into issues with it special blend is another option good luck and the build is looking great

Just an opinion, but a local reefer started his tank with 100% dry rock and seeded it with just 1-2 pieces of live rock, and a bag of sand from a reefer....
He had the most problems i have ever seen........
He removed a pile of rock, and replaced it with live rock from a LFS.
from that point on, he started getting algae glowth on his front glass, and corals started to turn around...
(untill then, he had a little algae and lots of coral death.... and there wasnt a single test that we did that could figure it out..)

Im only saying this, because with no die off, and no load, you wont have a cycle.....
there is no life...

SO, you might look into trading some dry rock for live. (maybe a few local reefers would trade to to get you kickstarted)

Glad to finally see an update!!

A thought revisited regarding what to do with the master side for privacy.
I don't know the space constrains on the master side but my thought were to build/buy a buffet to go in front of the tank that the TV lifts out of on powered actuators.

Take this a step further and actuate a whole hutch or mirror to lift into place obscuring the tank.

...On second thought put the money in the tank. LOL
This is your vision and I'm just going to trust it because so far you haven't seized to amaze and entertain us. so thanks for the great build. and great to see some progress.

I did end up putting in about 100lbs of live rock from multiple sources. Hopefully that will be enough.

I should not have shown my wife your thoughts. She really likes that idea (I dont think its a bad one either). I'm going to do something with the master bedroom side once I have got some fish and coral in there. Thanks for sharing!

that's cyano

yes the darker grey/black is but the red "fuzzy" algae is asparagospis it is extremeley invasive and will cover anything any everything even macro, to the point where it kills off the macro algae. good news is turbos will take care of it. but I only see a tiny but so manual removal should be the end of it.

I am so impressed by the quality of your work, I'm completely jealous of how it has turned out and I am 100% inspired!
I have only JUST bought my first house with my girlfriend so we should be moving into a house from our apartment about mid year. After we have made all the changes we have done I am definitely going to follow your lead and do something similar, I am really looking forward to having a large tank to replace my little Red Sea Max!

Ya from what I have seen its something I dont want. I'm going to try to get in there and get it all out this weekend.

I look forward to seeing your build. Congrats on the new house

Awesome shots. I especially like the lengthwise shot. I imagine you took that from the little closet beside the tank? I always liked looking at my tank from the end; soooo much depth to it.

There were a few minor leaks when it first got water but after I correct my mistakes we are all dry.

First fish comes out of QT tomorrow and into the tank. :bounce2:

love the tank man.. i killed all of my figi rock before putting it in.. (just letting it sit dead.. then i added about 20 cocktail shrimp as well.. after about a week everything spiked, i removed the dead shrimp and just let it run....

hey, it works.. now my tank looks great.. and just started running the skimmer a week ago

looking forward to see some growth!
