My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

i was following along recently and u have a awsome tank and seems like and even better wife as she lets you do things some people only wish they could but you cerrtainly take the hobby to the spending limit great job tho

I went with this LG. Its way oversized but with all that water I wanted to have more than enough cooling so my chiller will never have to kick on. This thing dropped the temp in my shed from 80 to 70 in 10 minutes when it was 110 outside. So far pretty happy with it. The coming months will really tell the story though.

Thanks. Did you install it yourself? I've been considering this for years, but I don't have the tools to evacuate the lines and most of the AC companies I ask about this arent willing to service something I install myself (or so they tell me over the phone).

One of my good friends is an AC tech so he did most of the work. They are fairly easy to install but the evacuating of the lines would require tools most of us dont have. I wonder if you may be able to rent the pump needed for this somewhere?

You are one of the most patient and dedicated reefers I know. It's great to see to see some life in there!

Its always one step forward 2 steps back it seems. I finally got all the fish out, that was not fun. I have read different lengths on leaving the tank fishless to rid the tank of ick. I have read anywhere from 21 to 90 days. With all the work I went thru to get these fish out I'm going to make the tough decision and try to go the 90 days. In the mean time I have transfer about half my corals from my old tanks (60 and 40B) into the frag tank on line with the display. Those corals seem to be doing good so far. I have been busy with a bunch of smaller project on the tank like running electrical from the shed to the house for the lights that way they have their own breaker. I also trenched and ran the usb cable and cat 5 cable for the apex from the shed to the house for the display lights and internet for the apex. Not fun when its 115 out. Par is still pretty low for me with just the tubes at about 150 at 6". When I get back from vacation in 2 weeks I will be installing halides above the display and moving full speed ahead with corals as my tank sits fishless. I hope to replace the halides with some leds before next summer. Coraline is starting to pop up everywhere on the rocks and I feel that in 4-6 months the rocks will look great. Thats about it for now.

Wow! I'm speachless! It's so awesome and inspiring to see what you've done and the dedication! It's also slightly more amazing to see this in Phoenix. Reading all these build threads sure are amazing but it's awesome to have Phoenix represented in such an awesome way! Keep up the great work. I've managed to keep my eyes glued to the screen for the past 2 hours reading this thread! Thanks for the updates!!!

Nice build! Got another follower! I have something similar to this in the plans but the funds aren't there yet. Keep the pictures coming!

^ Going on 3.5 years :( On a good side note I took the par meter around the enite tank today at about 1pm. The tubes provide very spoty light that moves with the sun. In some areas of the tank at 12" I get 100 par while a few inches over I will get 800, and as the sun moves the "hot spots" moves as well. Not too sure its a good thing but I'm happy that the large investment in the tubes is not a total waste.

With the help of my good friend Elliot I was able to get some metal halides up over the display. There were numerous small projects that needed to be completed before I could get to the lights. I wanted to go LED but these will have to do for a while. Here are just the (2) 250W Halides. Bedroom Side
