My 6 month old 90 gallon redoing LOTS OF PICS!!!

Yeah I was told peppermint shrimp works or a copperband butterfly fish. But I have already moved all my rocks to a large bin with saltwater, power heads, and heater waiting to hear what I should do next to get rid of this problem.

Here is Pictures of what I've done today:

The last piece is still in there because of my snowflake eel. I figured I would do that piece last.

The only advice I can give you is that you're going way too fast. You need to slow waaaay down, do some reading, upgrade equipment if/when you can, and be patient. And did I mention go slow/be patient? ;) I'd also remove more than half of the fish you have, including all of the tangs save the yellow, and you'd be on your way to a better 'start'. Ripping the tank apart and cooking rock while you have a tank full of live stock isn't something I'd do, but you've already done it. And where do you expect all of your fish to hide now that there are no rocks left? Especially the tangs? The vlamingii for example cannot be kept in 99.9% of aquarists tanks and should be left for public aquariums or the ocean.

Thanks for the advice. I plan on taking out all the tangs but the yellow. I had a huge infestation of Aiptasia and there was no way I could target each one to kill them off. I still have some growing in the sand, which I plan to suck up this afternoon. My fish seem to be doing fine. There is no aggression towards one another, they are all just swimming together as a group now.

Ok so I've been checking on the rocks daily and I can't tell whether the Aiptasia has died off or not. I think it has but I want to wait a few more days to be sure. I need some ideas on aquascaping and how to properly secure rocks together so I don't have a rock avalanche on my hands again. I don't want to buy the epoxy from the LFS because its 12.99 a tube and I know I will need wayyy more than 1 tube. Any suggestions?

Your rock is just sitting in a rubbermaid tote with a heater and power heads with NO LIGHT right? If so, this is NOT going to kill aptasia. Aptasia will grow in overflow boxes, in sumps, under rocks etc...not getting light. You'd be better off putting the rock back in and getting a berghia nudibranch or some peppermint shrimp.

And if $12 for epoxy times a few sticks is a limiting factor...

Look around the posts here, lots of people are drilling and using acrylic or PVC rods to stack the rocks. Can make some cool designs.

Its not a limiting factor. I was just looking for a cheaper route maybe? Yeah I am getting 7 of my fish out today and LFS said they would help me sell them so thats fine. With the rock I checked a lot of the pieces out this morning and I couldnt really tell a difference. So I am going to start this week with re aquascaping and just get a bunch of peppermint shrimp to help kill off the infestation. They are cheap.

An Update

An Update

So here's an update. I took all the rocks out of the bin and laid them out. I then planned my rock work and here is my end result:

Sorry for the bad pics taken from an iphone 4. I will get better pics from my SLR when I get home I was just in a rush last night after I put the rocks in because it was late and needed to get some rest before work in the morning.
There was about 12 pieces of extra rock that I did not need so i put them in my 29 gallon tank which was lacking rock.

I have a video but I can't figure out how to post it. I'll have to mess with it later while I'm not at work.

I also purchased a NextReef MR1 Complete Media Reactor Kit that should be arriving the same time I get my bigger refugium and protein skimmer which should be arriving on Tuesday of next week.

I have been trying to plan out a fish list of what to add for some color with my fishes. Here is what I have in the tank as of now:

Sebae Clownfish
Blue Throat Trigger
Lyretail Anthias Male and Female
Yellow Tang

Here is the list of fish that I like. I will pick a few from this list:

FireFish X2
Royal Gramma Basslet
Blue Reef Chromis X3
Purple Dottyback

So I am almost finished with my upgrades. Hopefully by the end of next week I will have the new refugium, Protein skimmer and phosphate reactor running in the tank. I also have a JBJ UV Sterilizer that I haven't used in a while. I need to get a new filter sponge for it and UV sterilizer light. What do you guys think about using the UV Sterilizer? will it make a difference if I were to put it in my refugium?

Kyle

I have a Tunze pump for my return and it pushes 792gph. It has to push the water about 5 feet. How much head loss am I having? and would it be fine to use this with my new refugium? It says max GPH is 1200. What are some good pumps if I need to upgrade?

As far as the aiptasia go, I would go with some peppermints and some Aiptasia X/ Joe's Juice/ Kalk paste. FWIW, I had good luck with the peppermints from LiveAquaria (there are 2 species of shrimp that look very similar, one eats aiptasia, one doesn't and is often sold as peppermints). Slowly work on eliminating the aiptasia yourself, and your peppermints will help finish them off.

Also, Basslets & Dottybacks don't do well together.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the UV filter.

Your Tunze return should be fine. Head Loss Calculator

Thanks for the information. I am going to order the shrimp from liveAquaria. good to know about the fish conflicts. Last night I picked up 3 reef chromis that are blue with a yellow lateral line and 2 firefish and a sixline wrasse. I am thinking of getting a royal gramma basslet and then calling it a day with my fish or do you think I could add a few more smaller fish? I also picked up a nice size yellow acro from the LFS, but i am working on placement right now as I can;t get it to pop at the moment. any thoughts?

Kyle

:strange::thumbdown:furious:I think my six line wrasse became a victim to my snowflake eel. I haven't seen the fish all morning.

Can I get an ID on this please? I have been trying to find the right place for it in my tank but cant seem to get it to pop yet.

IF someone could help me out with an ID and a good placement in my tank to get it to pop.

Here are updated pics of my tank. Still waiting on the new refugium, phosphate reactorm, and protein skimmer. I cant wait!

I am still looking for an ID on the SPS. It has brown spots where the polyps would come out but there aren't any polyps. I have noticed that in certain areas all around the piece there are little white/translucent fans that go in and out constantly. I don't know if they need to be out at all times or not meaning do I need to move it to an area with lower current? Does that help with an ID?

I just did the math and I am running close to 6,875 gph in my 90 gallon which turns into about a 76 turnover rate. Is that too high?

Just a tip, theres an edit button on the posts, try to use it so there aren't 5 posts in a row about the same thing (obviously pictures may need a few posts). Makes it easier to read questions and all.
