my 6101 also stopped functioning

I too have a pump thats fairly new (purchased from marine depot within the last 6 months) and it stopped functioning. Unfortunetly for me the pump is embedded in a fake rock deep into the tank and is fairly destructive to remove. Are you sure its a defective pump or could the controller be defective? I'm not measuring more then 24V on any of the power pins.

gray to yellow is 8v
yellow to brown is 8v
gray to brown 0.5V

main input is 22V from the adapter

From the other post it seems like it could be a pump problem. Can I pay for the pump first and do a cross shipment. I'm not sure i can remove this pump and wait for the replacement to come.

You need to change the pump placement, every 3-6 months these pump need to be cleaned or they can lock up with calcium. I am sorry but I must recieve the old pump back first. Too often the cause is simply neglect or water damage. The controller is an 8V system so your pin out readings are correct. I would start with removing the pump, if it hasn't been cleaned in 6 months it could be just locked up with calcium and then it shuts itself off.

You may have a point with the pump placement. I'll see what I can do. But regarding the calcium build up, I just cleaned this pump 3 months ago so I doubt it is that. I'll post more once I have the pump removed for inspection and I'll go from there.

Keep me posted, I am out of 6101's until Friday at any rate so I can't do much before then. Friday we get a shipment of spare parts and complete 6101's.

ok so I just dismantled the right side of my tank and boy does the calicum build up quick. Less then 3 months! I've cleaned it out with some vinegar and the pump is functioning perfectly. I've decided to remove the deco rock, if a pump requires this much cleaning then not much point to using a deco rock , especially if you have a small tank (100gallons cube). I've decided to use my tunze magnetic pump holder and its now easily accessible.

Thanks for your support non-the less. I'm really glad tunze is out here support the customer on this forum and being so active. This proves that my purchase will be with tunze again for the multi controller and another pump on the other side of my tank.

The deco rock works well but it should be the top rock, the best way to use the deco rock is place it on top of a short structure of live rock and epoxy some small zoanthid or mushroom colonies to it and they will spread and take over the rock. The main reson to use zoos or mushrooms is they can withstand the abuse of being removed periodically, usually the pumps need cleaning at 3-6 month intervals. You can go longer with more modest calcium levels.
