My 65 Gallon Mixed Reef

Hahahahaha, you're on a roll, biggles! Love the shovel! Don't understand why more people don't walk around with shovels to shade themselves? :reading:

What type of shovel?Flathead , round, trench? Or was it one of those fancy NASA shovels you have

Marty

Thanks very much for the nice post Mike, appreciate it mate :)

Despite Kevin initially being hesitant to participate in Monique's birthday pic i was eventually able to persuade him to sit for a nice shot.

The sun was really bright and making Kevin squint so i used a shovel to shield him........... just in case anyone gets any funny ideas about why it was being held above his head.

Shovels are handy things mate :p

Some acros are brown and ugly when photographed at night but not my favorite acro. It's the prettiest glowing blue acro from top to toe i've ever seen so it's highly likely i'll kill it somehow

No idea what type it is Marty but i'll check at work to see what they bought to replace it with when it went missing

You sure you don't want to hear about the time Boxboy stabbed me with a lit sparkler Marty ? I'm not sure if he thought he was some sort of wand waving wizard that night but he wounded little biggles enough to require a doctors visit. Little biggles visited the doctors so much during his early years that one day the doctor asked little biggles mom to step out of the room so he could ask little biggles ' is that how you really hurt your arm biggles ? '
Anyway, i gave Boxboy Potter his Goblet of Fire a couple of weeks later just as Voldemort would do if Potter stuck a lit sparkler in his side.

So you just "forgot" to mention that you an bought an acro like this, eh? :strooper:

Damn, that's exactly what I've been looking for over the last 2 years , beautiful color . What else have you got hidden, ya sneak!!?

Hahahaha, love the BoxBoy story :p. I'm an only child, so never quite had that kind of "entertainment" :p.

It looks nothing like that purplish color under the tank lights mate. It's sky blue but the whole thing literally glows neon blue and i can't photograph it properly as the camera gives me images like actinics only results.
It's this one i showed you a few weeks back but the pigments are a tad more concentrated now lol.

Very nice acro mate, I can't wait till my tank is ready and I can get some similar to that:). I loved the story as usual:lolspin:, I have a good mate that I study with and the things he and his brothers got up to are seriously funny. This is one of my favorite ones. One morning the youngest of the three brothers was annoyed with the the second youngest brother for some reason, so the second brother was having his cereal and the youngest brother walked past and thought it would be a good time to get even, so he proceeded to try and drown his brother in his cereal. Now the second brother was a bit older and stronger than the youngest so he could hold himself up, he found the situation very funny so whilst being 'drowned' he was laughing his head off. No one was drowned in the story just so you know:lol:

Nicely done biggles, I'm jealous! Good work not jumping on the led wagon, for that reason, I'd love to know what ballast you're running? There doesn't seem to be much choice here in NZ, but lucky heaps of the 'brothers' jumped across to live a better life-on the benefit-who can on forward one to me (just kidding, my mates who moved over have jobs.)

Bello, I have been stalking him, and he hasn't been on the forum for days. Word on the street is he is going back to fresh water. I hear he already has a platy tank, and is looking for some show guppies.

Marty
Are you serious or just pulling our leg Marty?

Hi mate, i run my 400W Radium on a 400W high pressure sodium (HPS) ballast. They're readily available online at any 'hydroponic' store for about $100-.
None of your mates moved near a beach obviously...........

So about when i last posted i overdosed the alk trying to use the stupid dosing machine. Display went from 7.5 to 12+ - in 8 hours with all the lights running. The whole tank was cloudy white and about 70% of my acro pieces were in full blown RTN or already dead. The fish were looking sleepy so i freaked out for 5 mins until i figured out what to do. Forgot all about the corals and used the last of my salt to change all the water in the sump dump tank and turned off the feed from the return section to it. Chucked a heater in there and then i literally ripped the reef apart and removed about 30lbs of rock covered in dying stinking acros which was thrown into a poly box.
This made it easy to catch the fish AND most importantly Potatohead ! They all perked up in a freaked out what the hell just happened kind of way and i fed them like pigs for a week because i felt guilty.

This is when i was nearly finished removing rock and corals, i took out that rock on the left so i had a good open fish swatting field. Most of the SPS in the pic died within 24 hours but i saved some stuff that is apparently tough as nails just losing tips and PE.

The reef and i have been having a quiet sulk tbh. I now have about 20lbs of rock in the display and have decided to leave it this way with all the rock well clear of any walls.
I'm more than happy to go into more detail on what i did to deal with the crash if anyone wants to know, long story which is the only reason i didn't give you a blow by blow of what happened.

Went to Reeflections on Monday and got bamboozled into buying fish, acros and flubber by Dave and his bloody trained SPS octopus............ don't get into a staring contest with an occy. :hmm4: I went there to get a single test acro for the display water and was ambushed by some shocking sales tactics resulting in me dropping over $300 instead of $40......... well played Dave.........

This is Dave's sales sidekick.............. of course i bought the blue tipped acro, it was being guarded by an octopus - if that aint an SPS sign i don't know what is !

Hey Bigs it sucks that the tank crashed:( .Would you mind sharing the procedure you used the try and save it that would be great, so I know what to do if that happens to me. That blue tip Acro looks amazing in the octo photo, mind taking a close up pic for your mate Fishy (and the name of it-Fishy is trying to increase his SPS knowledge database:D).

That tank crash is a pity. It was truly amazing, Biggles.
No doubt you will overhaul that acro temple with permission from the evil octopus and Kevin.

Good luck pal.

I'm sorry for your loss, as I know you've put a lot of work into this. I've been following along for a while just amazed at your accomplishment. I suppose even the most experienced are prone to a silly mistake that can ruin a whole tank. I can feel your pain 1000's of miles away. If it counts as any consolation, with what I've seen you do so far, you'll have everything back and better than before in at least two months. We all might continue to learn something new.

Yes - please share the details of your experience with the dosing machine, if it's not too painful.

Sorry about the crash, of course, and glad you are on a buying spree again. :) That's what this hobby is all about, keeping others wealthy.
