My 65 gallon SPS setup

Hello im kinda new to this but here goes. I am working on getting all the pieces together but my plans are a 65 AGA tank with overflow. Here is a list of the pieces am going to use with it.

Homemade stand
ASM Mini G skimmer
36 in Current USA Nova Exteme Pro T5
20 Gallon Sump with refugium
2 Vortech MP10
Pics will be coming
I think thats about it so far maybe someone can let me know what you think.

I would consider replacing the ASM with an Octopus NW-110 and the Nova with a Tek. Other than that, it sounds like a great setup!

+1 on the skimmer mentioned above. If you can anyways. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

Not from personal experience but I've heard a Vertex IN 100 would rock on a tank your size. Just something to consider.

Kinda on a tight budget after i bought everything on my list so will just have to upgrade as I go alone. The Skimmer was the one that came with the tank when I bought it. And my sump I made using a 20 gal long tank with a place for the skimmer on left and a fug in the middle and pump return on right. I hope to have all the pieces by monday but I am doing a tank transfer tommorow from a 34 gallon solana.

I currently have a 65 gal reef, and running 1 MP-40. I keep mine running at about 50% and more than that and the PE becomes less due to the force.

I also have a 65 sps with a 20 long as my sump as well. My sump design is different and I recommend you do it this way. I have the skimmer section on one side and the fuge on the other with the return in the middle. You T off your drain pipe and put a ball/gate valve on the pipe going to the fuge so you can adjust the flow rate into the fuge. You want very little flow going through your fuge. I'll see if I can find a pic...

Here is a pic i dug up. You cant see the T from the drain, but i have a valve right below the drain bulkhead, then a T to the filter sock, and the other end to the fuge.

I'd just like to say that I too run an ER RS-80 on my 65g...and its a beast of a skimmer for a tank this size.

You will be fine with the equipment you listed, so fare you'r off to a good start just remember to take each step slow and observe you tank and animals very closely.

I have been using esv b-ionic 2 part with my tank and have seen some new growth with some of my corals. I have also considered switching my salt from RC to the ESV b-ionic seawater mix does anyone think that is a bad idea.
