My 65G Shallow Reef Tank

hair algaeI saw the method of using sodium hydroxide, but did not see the tutorial, I consulted some people foxface will eat, but I do not have this fish. Is there any other way to ask?

Happy new year.

There is no new development that is newsworthy except that my only lyretail anthias, which is a female, is turning to a male. The CBB is still alive and is still not eating anything other than frozen PE mysis, and clams and mussels.

The nutrients have are still very high, but the NO3 (25 ppm)-PO4 (0.25 mg/L) ratio is now 100:1. All the colours are good, but growth has stalled. I have found a research article that explains why despite high nutrients we the reefers may still have good colouration (read this as lack of zooxanthellae density) on our Acroporids. It is all down to NO3 and PO4 ratio as we suspected all along and reported based on anecdotal evidence. If interested, please let me know, so that I can forward you the link to the article.

There are patches of annoying bryopsis on live rock and cyanobacteria came back on the weir wall. I am very layback about these. I pull bryopsis regularly and syphon cyanobacteria during water changes.

Beautiful shots, Bulent.
Corals looks very healthy..
I have certainly been there with nutrients.. actually spent most of my recent reef keeping in that range.
However, now that I have gotten nutrients down, I am less happy with colours. And growth is not really any better...
Mother Nature is a tricky and coy creature.

Is your bulb combo still 3 blue plus, actinic, 2 coral plus, purple plus and ab special?
How much colour correction is required for your photos?

Hi Bülent,
Happy New year!
Could you send me a link to the article of acros coloration with a high level of N/P, please.

Thanks Matt. I am hoping to reduce the nutrients a little lower while (somehow) maintaining their ratio. PO4, in particular, needs to come down as the growth has stalled.

Yes, it is.

I use "Photos" on my iMac OSX. I adjust white balance (temperature/tint) to remove the excessive blue hue and sometimes adjust definition (0.25) to get the clarity I need, so that the image I upload resembles the real thing. I do not adjust any colours, light or sharpness. Here are some examples (before and after):

Happy New year!

Your reef is an inspiration to me! I've read your posts several times...

Could you send me a link to the article of acros coloration, please.

Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words. I have just sent you a pm.

Cheers

Thank you very much!

I recently had a problem with Nitrate and phosphate balance. After I started to use zeovit, both N and P were always undetectable ... I was fed 6x a day, did not change, I started dosing phosphate, no change ... Finally, my aquarium had an outbreak of dinoflagellates, fortunately I got the nitrate suddenly went from undetectable to 10, result, I lost much of the corals ... To this day I can not understand if it was the dinos that consumed the nitrate or if they interfered in the bacterial population of the aquarium to the point of having this nutrient peak ...

Big hug!

I am not certain about the causes of dinoflagellates. I do not have much experience with them. So, I cannot offer any advice. I only had them shortly after I set up my present tank seven years ago. It was a short spell. I managed to get rid of them.

Yes, they do. They are similar to my Genicanthus angels in that the CBB occasionally chases the YLB, but YLB has formidable dorsal fins.
