My 90 - first "real" reef - Pic Thread

That RBTA looks great. I have been thinking about purchasing one for my 90 gal tank that I am setting up. I'll have 2X175W MHs so it won't be as much light as you have, but they are a lower light anemone so it should be alright. Great pics though, keep up the good work.
 
I tried my best to plan out where to place the rbta ahead of time. I made a nice crevice for it to settle in, a medium flow area a bit below one of my powerheads. The best thing is that the anemone has never moved form that spot! :)
 
That particular rbta has 3 inch tentacles. When it fully expands its width/diameter is about 7 inches.

I originally ordered it from MarineDepot when they were on sale for $79.99. The first one had a rough time, as you can see if ya saw earlier on in the thread.

When I called them about it dying, the price had gone back up to ..... $179.99.. but they replaced it for me for free, plus the cost of shipping. To my surprise, the new one was huge in comparison to the first one!
 
The refuge is not needed and is just an added thing. So really you can make it whatever size you would like. It certainly works wonders for keeping nitrates in control though. Mine is now packed with caulerpa.
 
I added a auto-topoff valve to my sump yesterday. Finally no more topping off water every day. It's veen evaporating about an hour and a half a day. Was getting tiresome!

I think he means 1 1/2 gallons of evaperation /day ....

warboc..here's a start up photo of my sump (based on your sump design) - the refuge will be much smaller - possibly 8"

warboc...did you find that the bubble trap on the right hand side was necessary? i'm thinking of doing one bubble trap on the left and just one baffle before the return pump on the right
 
Yes, it is necessary on the right. I usually keep my water level in the return pump area a little lower than that of the refugium. When the water overflows into it, some bubbles are created. The trap catches/stops them.

Edit: At some point I removed the far right baffle on the right. There is an "over" and an "under" only.

I setup a quarantine tank a couple weeks ago. It's a 10 gallon tank, with a spare strip light I had. For the top, I got a 12x24 sheet of acrylic from Home Depot. Filtration is a small air driven foam/carbon filter.. and of course an adequate heater. I was completely out of places in the house for another tank, so it is on my fireplace for now.

Today I added a small purple tang to the qt. I plan to keep it in qt for 3 to 4 weeks. Unless of course I have to treat it for illness, which would make its stay longer. Note the elaborate caves I installed into the tank.

I may keep this tang in this small tank for years.

thanks warboc....i noticed something interesting - the overflow box in my tank is more to the center than yours...wonder why that is
