now I need to add a rubber grommit to the power cord hole to keep it clean looking and protect the rubber on the cords and add fans!!!

Wow really nice job! I can't wait to see this tank.

Yea, my PBT is fine... just the tank is being torn apart to upgrade to a 120 when we move in March... and I have bad algae from bad flow right now.. so it needs some work.

Glad my thread helped =)

I have an OM 4 way right now, but am not sure if I want to keep my current design.

I have a question. Will you be running the 4-way into one output each, or will you be spliting each output into 2 or more?

nano, Im jealous that your going into a 120!!! 4x2x2?

shacocka, j/k! each 4 way output will run to one of the four 1" holes in the back of the tank, Im planning on doing the version 3 drum so I can alternate from the two top returns and two bottom returns back and fourth. do you have your split to run like a om 8 way?

tigerarmy40,
nice stand bro. Where did you get that mermaid piece? I was looking to have something similar on my canopy (more like fish instead of mermaid, but you get the point) but couldn't find anything within an affordable price range.

thanks guys! I have to say Im pretty ahppy with the way its all coming together now!!!

As far as the mermaid goes, I actually had it imported in from bali. There is a store or was a store on the central coast called bali deisgn and they had tons of cool stuff! I requested a mermaid and the owner delivered!!! it was actually pretty reasonable to.

you need to do a test run with Scotch, Scothcy scotchy scotch! (to check for leaks of course!)
Purely scientific reasons

Crzy: Nice bottle of Oban would do nicely.

Tiger: i'm actually splitting one port into 4 1"pvc exits. I wanted an even flow, but I may be losing A LOT of head power with this. That's why I'm thinking of changing it.

believe me I have had many nights with the scotch after the blood sweat and tears I have put in this thing...well maybe not blood or tears! lol

You could have easily fit a 48" wide tank on that wall. I think you should build some stand offs that raise your hood about an inch off the tank to show that it's braceless. Love the mermaid.

Probably =) Still thinking may be a 48" x 30" x 24" as well.

well its been about three months since my last update and I have to say that not much has happened, the tank has been on hold for a while so I could really take a look at the direction I wanted to go and save up a little cash. I decided to stick with my skimmer and design my sump around it.

I finally found someone that would make me a box for a decent price and as it turned out I was going to be in la this week for a dysneyland trip so I picked up a 24x18x16 acrylic sump with no baffles. I tried to explain what i wanted but it just never came out right and Im no artist so I decided I would try and add the baffles for the bubble trap and fuge on my own. First thing I needed to do is practice making overlfow teeth so I could have the fuge drain through them and not have any algae go over the edge. Heres a shot of what I started with :)

It was pretty obvious from my first few attempts that I was going to need some type of guide. The router was grabbing the sheet as the blade hit and throwing it off. I also didnt have a good grasp on how to space them evenly. Adam thought of a way to make holes in a piece of wood that were even spread at about 3/4" apart.

here you can see how sloding it from one hole to the next would give us an even spread of teeth

Picture090-1.jpg

I have to say I was pretty happy with the end result, the teeth came out alot better than the trials. I am ready for some black acrylic or abs (thanks nathan) so I can start my fuge and finish up my sump. Here is what the teeth looked like once we were using the new custom frabricated DIY guide :)

Here are some pics of the sump with my skimer sitting in it and some tape to give ma an idea of what I am going to need for my baffles ect...

Tape is a little off but its just for a rough draft

and a couple shots of the final product! I think Im still going to hit the seems with a little weldon 16 to strengthen them and make sure they are completely sealed!!!
