My Acropora are dying, what could it be?

I bought 3 Acropora's from a friend (they are about 1Ã"šÃ‚½ years old). They were aclimatized the right way and thrived in the tank for about 1 month. Now they are dying!

I checked the water parametres and they were all good, almost... The Strontium read 2 and Magnesium read 1100. My Calcium level is at 420. Specific gravity is at 1.023.

Lighting: 2 X 150W HQI, 10000 kelvin - 2 X 54W T5, Blue Plus

Could it be the low Sr and Mg level that is causing the coral death?

What is your ALK level? pH? Ammonia?

Any other recent changes or additions? Where are they in relation to the lighting? How is your water movement? What do you feed them?

Binski

My ALK is 10 dKH, pH is 8,3. NO2, NO3, NH4, PO4, Si and Cu are all 0.

They are placed high in the tank so they have good lighting. Water movement is good 18000 litres/hour.

Do Acropora need feeding? Aren't they photosynthetic?

No I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t add strontium iodine or magnesium and my acroporas are growing like crazy, I don't dose anything except kalkwasser.
Did you have a temperature swing or over dose anything lately?
What do the frags look like?
Bleached, rtn,stn?
"Red Bugs"

Do you have a picture?
What species of acropora is it.

Mg should be 1350 ppm. Sr is very controversial topic. Julian Sprung (If i recall correctly) stated that it (Sr) is paramount for keeping Acro's. The problem of Sr is it is difficult to test for so you do need to be very careful with additions.

Gobie,

Maybe your salt brand contains these trace quantities in their right amounts. Some salt brands are very defficient and you would need to use additives. There is a study on the different saltbrands here on RC that show all trace contents.
