My acropora spawn together (Video)

IMO it was most likely due to the stress, they spawned to try and insure that their kind would survive. They must have thought they where about to die. Keep an eye on them, may not be done yet.

Well now the system is up and running again and I hope they will make it. They don't appear to be stressed for the time being and water parameter is optimal now.

By the way, the water parameter was not good when I return:

KH: 6
Ca: 395
NO3: 6
PO4: 0.1

Since I am having two rows of lighting so all corals still receive some light. Also 4 Tunze pump is still turning the water over to promote some gas exchange.

I think it has to do with elevated temperature during the breakdown of pumps.

continued existance of the species.......

My guess would be that the sudden change (pump repair and such) triggered the spawning event.

In most cases, sexual spawning events are not due to stress. These animals must sequester the energy and materials needed to do it--it doesn't just "happen." Quite a lot goes into the process. Most operate on an internal "clock" of sorts, often spawning twice a year, IME, around spring and fall. Now, stress after the fact due to decline in water quality is a definite possibility. When animals like this have enough energy at their disposal, often they will devote it to spawning. IME, if they have it continually, the more often such events will happen.
