My attempt at breeding black clowns (in a 28 gallon mixed reef)

As a newbie, I can't send PM's, gotfrogs or GreshamH could you PM me and educate me as to what I need to order from Reed.

I have been feeding the rots Roti Rich and have come across a couple of threads stating that people were having high clown fry/larva mortality rates using the Roti Rich.
Do I have to continue to culture phyto or is there something I can feed as well as enrich the rots without having to culture phyto and eliminate a half m8llion bubbling pop bottles..

Thanks.

I would order the Rotifers (either type), RGcomplete, tdo-a top dress pellets. You will also need a strainer for the Rotifers.

I purchased the culture kit from Florida Aqua Farms ( Sorry GreshamH ). Which came with the sieve, the rotifer cysts, Phyto disks, Roti Grow, and Algae grow. I didn't have much luck with growing the Rotifers from the cysts so I ordered the Rotifers from Reed.

My problem is that I have been feeding the Rotifers the Roti Grow and have read more than a few threads regarding the use of Roti Grow and the fry/larva mortality rate in doing so.

I would like to not have to deal with the Phyto if I don't have to and just be able to grow and feed the Rotifers either a gel, paste or liquid food that I didn't have to culture along with the Rotifers.

Which bottle. The 6oz, 16oz or 32oz.?
It's not the price that matters so much, when the shipping costs more than the product, I question myself.:hmm6:
I'm using the 16oz bottle and I have used less than half the bottle on two hatches. But I'd say to get the 32oz since you're paying that much for shipping

So I went to Mexico for a week and lost all of my Fry. I got back home on 5/2/15 and noticed a fresh clutch of eggs. I was out late at a happy hour tonight and did not get home before the tank lights went out. I still attempted to feed everyone and noticed fry in the tank. I was not really prepared for another batch (have not been taking care of the rotifers or the fry tank) but managed to collect ~30 of them hopefully I can manage to keep a few of these alive!

Collecting Fry

Hi,

I'm getting ready to try this for the first time. My black and white clown laid eggs on Saturday afternoon. Just got my rotifers from reed going. The rock they are laid on is way too large to transfer into the breeding tank. I read somewhere that its possible to suction the eggs off the rock the day before they hatch and transfer into the breeding tank. Has anyone tried that?
Was thinking about trying to suck them out with a turkey baster or a siphon with airline tubing?

with the flashlight method, you wait until the night they hatch, shine a flashlight and then catch them in a cup? Can you use a net, or a siphon tube?

Would appreciate any ideas or thoughts anyone has on this, thanks.

Howard

I have almost always collected the fry with a flashlight and a small cup. A net would damage the fry but a siphon could potentially work.
