My attempt at breeding black clowns (in a 28 gallon mixed reef)

You sure are lucky with your clowns spawning
Did you notice anything special you did that perhaps made them spawn ?
Nothing special. I do have a pair of file fish in the tank that require feeding every day. The tank gets a cube of PE mysis shrimp and a package of Instant Ocean Marine blend gel food every day.

I messed up with that batch. I decided to leave the eggs in the tank an additional night. The next day they were all gone, they either hatched or were eaten. I found another clutch today but they are on a much large rock that can not be removed. Unfortunately my male is getting beaten up really bad by the emperor angel. I have posted for sale add on a local forum for the emperor. Hopefully somebody will take him off of my hand soon.

So it is over a year later and I am way past due for an update. I still have three of the black and white ocellaris "babies" in my 57 gallon tank. One appears to be growing faster than the other two so I assume she will be the female. I have 4 percula babies from the clutch mentioned in the above post in a 12 gallon edge tank that I set up a few weeks ago and another one in my 58 gallon reef (had two but I think one of them may have been sucked down the overflow.
Here are some of the ones in the edge

Would love to see the Perculas you have! I am at day 9 of my first try of raising my True Percula fry. I am down to 5 but have another clutch due to hatch this tuesday nite so I am gonna give it another go. Any advice you can give about Percs will be appreciated.

I feed my rotifers with nanochloropsis paste from BrineShrimp Direct and home grown Nano culture. I use enough to tint the water a pretty nice green and don't readd until they have almost used it up. I have been alternating this with RotiRich that I got when I ordered my rotifer cysts. I have been able to "watch" my rots under a microscope! Super Cool.

Any updates as I just had my percs lay thier first eggs 3 days ago. This will be my first attempt. I have rotifer going in a 5g bucket, useing Phyto that I cultured a month ago to feed the rotifers.

Watching with great expectations.

Watching with great expectations.

My son and my self will be following your adventure as we have ordered a mating pair of Darwin Clowns and intend to try as you are.

Awesome thread! Ive been following it for a while. I can wait for my clowns to start spawning. Keep up the good work!

Wow long time since I was here. Very cool Gotfrogs it is a very good experience it cost some cash and lots of time and for me I couldn't make very much of it back but with that being said someday I will do it again. I still have the original Maroon clowns spawning, a set of thier offspring, and a pair of black and white clowns all spawning right now. I think maybe with the black and whites I could maybe get something back. It still wouldn't mater that much because it's just such a cool thing to accomplish. Lot of good luck.

I think I have my hatchery set up and ready to go. I got my rofifers, RGcomplete and TDO-A pellets from Reed Mariculture and an amonia alert badge, simple light socket and z-wave controllable LED light from amazon. I programmed the light to come on at 10% intensity for 14.5 hrs per day.

The rearing tank and rotifer cultures are all ready to go. Hopefully the eggs don't hatch on Friday night as that will be the only night this weekend that I am not available to catch the fry.

First time poster long time lurker.
Congrats on your success so far. I have read this thread and want to thank you for taking the time to offer your suggestions ans well as keep us updated.

I will be trying my hand at raising my clown fry ( plain Occy x Snowflake Occy )
Have my Phyto growing quite well, but the Rots are going to be a bit slower as I am starting them from eggs.
