I'm looking at a getting a new camera as I'm planning a vacation. However, I think I've taken some nice photos with P&S Kodak 340, a nice low end camera.

I just can't seem to get an FTS that I'm happy with.

Nice
With what you are getting out of that camera I cant wait to see what you will get out of a good DSLR. As you just might be a natural.

I'm not going to step all the way up to DSLR. I don't have a need for that much camera. However, I think there are some high quality point and shoots with quite a few options I'm eyeballing.

djc1026, the panasonic lumix are always a very good choice... I make a lot of reportage with this light equipment, compare to my DSLR suitcase... I began with FZ20, now kept my FZ30. They are very good, incredible macro distance (1 cm), all the modes available (manual, aperture, speed), the possibility of doing a manual focus, the RAW file recording, the video mode...
The bad sides are: cranked images with grain of high ISO settings, and not so good white balance possibilities.

but it's definitely a good choice when you don't want to go into DSLR!

Thanks for the comments. I've always had a camera, but mostly the simple stuff without many options. Since I've had the aquarium, I take more photos and it takes some fiddling with my camera to get decent pics.

Kactus, thanks for the info, pretty much what I've been reading about it, although I've got the impression the FZ8 has some pretty decent WB controls.
