My Blue Tort Spawned!!

I was able to capture my blue tort spawning the other night! I randomly decided to check the tank out before going to bed with a flashlight. I saw what looked like red pellet food floating around. I turned the pumps off and found them coming from my blue tort. I shot video with a wind-up led flashlight and my iphone..so sorry about quality. I've seen tv specials of this in the wild, but never thought I'd see it in my reef! This happened wed night/thursday morning around midnight. It was a full moon that night.

that is so awesome congrats I'll always remember when my sps spawned I'll never forget how happy it made me you'll want to skim it all out though.

I must be missing something. What am I looking for in the video? I did not even know SPS 'spawned'....

"I randomly decided to check the tank out before going to bed with a flashlight"
LMAO!!
I do that every night**** =]

Amazing!
I had a Pocillopora Damicornis spawn in my frag tank a few months ago, and now have a few dozen small frags growing on the glass, along with the fewer bigger ones I glued to plugs. A tort spawn though, that's COOL! Beautiful mother, too!

That is so cool to see. Must be a happy system. Did it trigger others to start up?

No, I checked all of the other corals and nothing happened. I also have a large frag of the blue tort in my frag tank..Checked that one as well, but nothing.

Hope its doing well for you Sonny!..I may have a bunch of pieces of that tort all over my tank soon!! We'll see if any of those eggs settle and grow.

you must be sooo proud!

you must be sooo proud!

Of coral that is cool hope you get a bunch of baby tort's save me one LOLOL:spin1:

First, congrats on having such a good system to get them to spawn! Second, is your tank exposed to moonlight?

To the poster that asked what are you looking for, you are looking for tiny, pellet-sized eggs floating about the video.

Would captive spawned corals be more resilient and "stronger" than captive cut corals?

I don't know about them being more resilient, but any captive-bred animal is generally easier to maintain in aquaria (for a variety of reasons) than their wild counterparts.
