My bluestripe pipe in my SPS reef

So I read a bunch in this forum about how people have had luck with these little guys. I really love pipefish but don't have the desire to setup a species tank. I decided to go with a bluestripe due lots of people having success. I was a little skeptical at people saying how they eat a whole mysis, no way can this little thing eat a whole mysis?

I aquired the specimen below in January. He is the brightest blue I have ever seen on a bluestripe. He isn't that navy blue but rather a bright royal blue. He eats whole frozen mysis, especially if I feed when the lights go out. He comes right to the top with the butterfy and sixline and other boisterous fish to feed. He can only eat about 3-4 mysis before his little belly is full, but he is doing great. He also feeds on pods the rest of the day. He has grown a little since I got him and he is about 2.5'' long now. No little bumps on the snout so male or female? Sorry for the bad pic, but he barely comes out during the day long enough to snap a pic.

I posted a thread asking how active these guys are. Can you check it out & let me know what your experience has been? I would be very happy if I could find a couple as nice as yours.

bumps = male. smooth = female.. I had my male for over a year when I finally found a female. I dropped her in my old 75 gallon (now a 120) and he found her in less than 5 minutes... love at first site!

No, I am have never seen him grooming anyone.

As for activity, he is very active during the day when the lights are off. All over the tank. But once the lights come on, he goes behind the rockwork. You can see him under overhangs and stuff outfront on occasion, but I would say I only see him maybe 5-10% of the time when the lights are on. If you look into/behind the rockwork you can see him swimming around, but you have to look.

Oops, I guess I should say her now huh

Congrats on the fantastic pipe, how is you current in you tank? I have a 250 G tank with some surgeons and other stuff that need a bit of current. But I would just love to have a little guy like yours ;=)

Hope you can guide a bit.

I have a vortec MP40 at nearly 100% in reefcrest mode in a 3ft long tank. A ton of current and doesn't bother this guy one bit.

Yeah, got it at Aquarium Center. They have them quite frequently but I have never seen one so blue.

That's right around the corner from me. I hate going there because one of the guys in the back has major attitude problems but it's the only game in town so I guess I'm stuck lol....

Yeah, they are some miserable people in there. The store is pretty nice, can't imagine how successful they would be if they got a better attitude. Been going there for 15+ years though
