My brand new pico tank

Clown gobies can be problematic because some of them just won't eat anything but live food - copepods. Panda is a variety of them. I have to make sure that the fish for the tank eats prepared food before I buy it. There are a number of tiny tiny gobies getting introduced as Nano tank gobies lately. I will look for those that grow up to 1 inch max.

I just added a nano goby. I believe it's Eviota spp. (aka Pygmy goby). He is barely 2 cm. Very very cute :)

Yea it looks great Tomoko, thought about it a couple of times too for the desk. Just walking into PetSmart always makes me want to buy another tank.

Tomoko,
What's the biggest difference between picos and larger tanks? I cant imagine how cool it would be to have a tank with one shrimp and a few zoos, kept clear and clean (and simple!)!

The biggest difference? I think it's the temp control. I still have it at home, and its temp is close to 84 (the room temp set to 77.) If I take it to my "freezing" work place (the thermostat setting keeps migrating toward 65 for some reason from 75), I suppose it will be lower for sure. I suspect that its own tiny power filter is actually adding some heat to the water, too.

The maintenance is relatively simple so far. I add some top off water in the morning using a small beaker. I change 10 - 15% of water every week (2 cups.)

I just can't stick my hand in the tank for any reason. I have to use a long pair of tweezers to pick up or rearrange frags. I use a smallest mag float to clean the walls, but if I am not careful, I bump into rocks and change the landscape. I rely heavily on tiny livestock to the cleaning for me. I have a few collonista snails and a few micro brittle stars for that.

I do not know if I recommend a one gallon tank to anyone. I'd go a little larger.

Tomoko,

How about removing that tiny power filter and running an airline in there, it should give water movement, but also lower the temp and keep the oxygen levels up.

Thinking of some way making a closed loop on on sons with a small external pump, had to remove the SPS that was there the flow theory was proven SPS needs flow.

That's a thought... I might be able to put a small air curtain at the back wall. The only draw back is salt creep with the bursting bubbles. I have a sponge filter in my QT tank from which I have to clean the salt spray/salt creep periodically. I may be able to use just enough air to keep aeration very small with a valve or something....

Thanks,

Tomoko

how about an air driven closed loop!

Nitroq2,

You might consider using a tiny canister filter with a spray bar. I remember seeing a 20G tank a TOTM winner put together with his 6 year old son using a small canister filter. He had many beautiful SPS's growing in there.

I saw Tomoko's little setup today and the pics just do not do it justice. It is smaller than i thought. lol. But very nice looking. Matches all the rest of her tanks though. They are all very nice and well kept.

Let me know if something happens to them. I will give you what i have left. The ones that you gave me are opened up and looking very nice. The ones (Zoas that i gave you)in my tank are opened up fine so i am assuming that the problem that i had in my tank did not affect them. And all is cleared up now. I am gonna PM you my email address and if you do not mind send me an email and i will send you some pics of some of my other zoas. maybe you can help me fully identify them. I will also get you some of them if you want. I would also love to get those links that me and you had discussed. I cannot post them here as they are in jpg form and i am not sure how to convert them to a usable form for this server.
