More Pics PlZ! So is the only flow in the tank from the airstone then?

sorry but there is not much to really take pictures of right now the larvae are still very small.

Yes for right now the only flow in the larvae tank is the airstone; scary i know..

So today starts day 5 i added some bbs to the water this morning and i think it scared the larvae lol.

I plan to do another 20% water change today as well.

Quick question i purchased the decapped bbs from seahorsesource and noticed that after the hatching there was allot of white particle matter floating around as well, can someone tell me what that stuff is????

Thanks Brandon; you and me both i still don't feel real confident about what i am doing at all but there are about 40 to 50 still alive at this point which i think may have me tricked into thinking i am doing something right, LOL....

Well i tried & tried over the weekend to come up with some pictures of the little ones here are some of the best ones out of what i got these were taken on 6/7/08 so the little ones are 4 days old in the pictures:

Looking good ! Looks like you have plenty of rotifers. Have you seen any ammonia spikes yet ?

Thanks; Yeah I think I have more rotifers in my larvae tank then i do in my culture tanks:eek1: Which i guess is ok at this point.

I can't really tell if the ammonia badge has moved up at all it's hard to tell with all the green water. The change is supposed to show up on the center circle correct?

I have been doing 20% water changes since the start of day 3 so i hope it has not had a chance to become a problem.

Admittedly, I have not read this thread and merely scanned it for pictures, but is there a reason why you have not enclosed the fry tank to keep it in darkness like Amy suggested?

lol Marc; I guess your right i never posted a picture of the "coffin" i mean larvae tank after i covered the whole thing in black trash bags. For the front i took a piece of cardboard bent it on the ends to go back halfway on the tank covered it with a black trash bag and then with some handy dandy diy skills and allot of duck tape made a hinge to open on the front for my viewing and prayer sessions lol...

As a matter of fact the tank is still that way today anyone want to tell me when i can remove the side cover?

Just checked on them at lunch added the rest of the bbs that i hatched yesterday and dumped in another 100ml of phyto.

I did notice last night that they all seem to be at different stages of growth i would assume this is normal?

I think I was told it is 10-14 days when you can remove the cover. Maybe FB will chime in here.

I've done it between 7 and 14 days. I only have a direct over head light. There is not much side light that gets into the tanks.

I think once Met has happened you are pretty safe.

Thats some great imagery there HAHAHA

Ok guess i will wait until after met. at least.
I think that is my next hurdle to go over.

FB how do you supply your bbs to the larvae when ready?
I ask because i hatched a batch on Sunday (day 5) and did not use all of it for fear of placing to many in the tank at one time. I took the leftover ones in a tupperware dish fed them some algae paste and placed them in the refrigerator. This afternoon i went to use them and they did not look so good.

If it makes any difference the ones i am using are the decapped bbs ones.

There are a couple of ways you can do it. You can use a long pipette to suck them up and then spot feed them to the tank. This way you can also control the number of BBS in the tank. Wehn they are all gone you add more. Some say not to put the BS water in the larvae tank. I have not have any problems with a small amount.

Another way is to run the bs through your rotifer screen. Just be sure to clean it well when done so you don't get any cross contamination.

Or a brine shrimp net. However I have found the holes in my brine shrimp net to big for the baby brine shrimp.

I keep my "curtain" on the tank until day 5-6 then remove it. I remove it at night and this allows them to adjust to the light gradually with sunrise naturally the next day.

I suck up my BBS through a pipette and squirt them into a coffee filter and use the fry tank water to rinse them. Then I suck them up again off the coffee filter and squirt them into the fry tank. I try and keep the water in the fry tank as clean as possible.

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Yes the center will change color with the raise of ammonia. I had the same problem reading the badge in the greenwater. I've since switch back to using regular test kits. I've also been doing water changes since day 4. About a gallon a day.

Very interesting.
You got me hooked on trying this sometime, only problem is that I can't find any rotifer or Phytoplancton cultures around here.
