My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

Well guys mine don't and i don't really know why? and to tell you the truth it's kind of boring there is no activity in the tank at all, unless you like watching bubbles rise; just three groups in 3 different corners of the tank at the surface, They just take turns like if you were playing "whack a mole" or something with your kids.

only update is i only have 1 now that has no headstripe.

Headcount remains at 15, and the clutch of eggs in the reeftank is so small for some reason this time around that i am just going to let them go.

Congrats keep it up. Its interesting just how much more slowly the true percs are developiog. Still along for the read!

Thanks; I find it interesting as well; i was starting to think that maybe mine were just a little "slow",lol; but now that i know that's normal i guess i will just roll with it.
Now if i could just figure out why they like to hang out in the corners of the tank  but they are alive and growing so that's a good thing:D

Hi folks! I'm hoping your info here can help me because now I'm in total PANIC MODE!!! Not only do I have my Yellowhead Sleeper Gobies laying eggs, I now just found a mass of eggs on the rock with my Ocellaris Clowns!!! I'm really freaked out and hoping I can salvage these guys before it's too late! The Gobie eggs are under a rock that I can move but the Clown eggs are not. I live in a condo and have very limited space for setting up culture growing stuff and tanks (without making it look like a fish store!). I do have a couple of 10 gallon tanks I can set up for the eggs but is there any "pre-grown" type of food I can feed them? Do I still have a week or two to get myself setup for a transfer or can these things hatch at any time? Thanks in advance to any and all that can guide me through this!

Here's my original post about my Gobies:

I want to add to my request for knowledge... I do have a large sump/refugium with a DSB that I'm currently growing frags in. What if I was to make some type of partitions with fine mesh filter socks for screens to put the eggs in?

Ok, update... my Gobies just hatched! Here's the link to my other post with the updated info: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=13216125#post13216125
As I mentioned in my other post, I can't do my research faster than these things are breeding so I would be very greatful if I can be walked through this process. Thanks!

I also want to mention that based on the great success and knowledge I've seen in this thread, I feel I'm in the right place for help!

subman719 I have replied to your other thread. I'm sure dazed dosen't mind, but you should probably stop hijacking this thread. People who have information will be happy to reply in your thread. You should probably seperate them one for the gobies and one for the clowns. I would love to see what you can get done with the gobies.

Thanks FB! "Sorry dazed"... just grasping at straws here.

No worries i remember how excited i got when i started trying to do all of this. It looks like FB has answered your questions about the clown eggs in your thread. I am also curious as to what happens with the gobies as well.

Update for me would be i still have the 15 perc's and they all now have their first headstripe. They are being fed otohime a & bbs and continue to hang out in groups in the corners at the surface. Some of the larger ones have been settling at the bottom and i believe they are just tired because they are starting to swim around with a bit more swagger than before.

dazed - Congrats on the success of your 15 little children! :) I'm hoping I can eventually have similar success. Do you have any current pictures of them?

So far my Ocellaris Clown eggs have turned brown 2 days ago and now I can see the "silver eyes"! FB mentioned in my thread that I would probably not be ready for them and it's killing me to think that I'll see these little guys go :( I think this is about day 5 for the eggs and I'm hoping they don't hatch too soon but my tank temp hovers around 80 deg. I'm going to try to set up a larvae catcher like yours hopefully tonight. I'm also going to order S and L Rotifers and phyto from Seahorse Source and hope they can get it to me by Friday. I'm really racing against the clock here.

As for my Gobies, not good news :( They were all dead as of yesterday :( I'll post the details in my thread. Also, as per FB's recommendation, I'm going to start 2 new threads to monitor future progress of my Clowns and Gobies. I really had no intention of breeding fish right now but I can't just sit back and just watch these things die!

As I recommened to dazed it is worth going through the process as far as you can even if you don't have food. It is an "Art" that takes a lot of practice the more things you can nail down now the better. If you don't have rotifers baby brine shrimp could keep a couple alive but the death rate will be larger. My last batch had only one day of rotifers and then nothing but brine. I have about 30 alive from that hatch. A lot less than my average 100 but something is better than nothing.

If they are only on day 5 you probably have a couple of days.

Here is what eggs that are going to hatch look like

Sorry to hear about the gobies but from what I understand they may be very difficult.

Sorry to hear about the gobies but hopefully you will get another chance with them. I know it may be hard to let the clown eggs go; but if your not ready completely just do as Fb has said and go through the process you will learn more & more each time you go through the motions. From what i understand more experienced breeders don't even bother with the first few batches as the pair are still working out their own issues as well.

You can use this time to start figuring out how the process is going to work for you. I suggest to start taking notes: Example write down the day the eggs are laid and keep track of when they hatch you will start to see what is the timeframe for you. My reef temp. is usually between 78-82 and my eggs usually hatch on the 10th night.

I do have some updated pictures of mine and a bit of sad news as well i will post the pictures here in a bit.

I know what you mean though i had no intention of breeding my clowns either, I have had the pair for around 4 years i think and one day they just decided for me that they were ready, lol.

Fb; nice picture & good size clutch it looks like; I know that is more eggs than i get to start with.

Update for me: well yesterday was kind of sad when i got home from work i found that (2) of mine had died. Not really sure why? The day before i did a wc and i did scrape the bottom of the tank and removed the algae that was there but i don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, I don't think so because they were alive in the morning, they were 2 of the larger ones as well i had thought that maybe some of the stragglers would have problems but oh well i guess. The only thing i noticed was the bellies of the (2) looked real orange maybe they ate to many bbs although i find it hard to believe that after a couple of weeks now they would die due to that?
Sad::(

On a better note here are my 31 day old munchkins:D
For the most part they are still hanging out at the surface in little groups although a couple of them hung around the heater all day yesterday.

907 to be exact. This was one of my better one if I remember correctly about 150 survivors.

Ok, here's the latest scoop: I just got off the phone with Seahorse Source and the earliest they can ship me S strain Rot's is next Tues. She recommended I ask you guys if anyone can send me some Rot's...??? I do have frozen Rot's from Hikari and it says: "Excellent for rearing fry in fresh or marine aquariums." Some how though, I don't think they are "S" strain.

Sorry to hear about the two deaths.

The other looks great. That is a very strong first band. Looks like you are doing the right things.

On another note I always leave at least 1 wall covered in algae, this helps reduce the nutrients in the tank.

dazed- I am sooooo sorry about the loss of 2 of your munchkins... it's so sad because they are so adorable! :( I hope that's the end of the losses. The two on the heater look like they're talking about you! LOL :)

FB- How in the world did you count "907"??? Your eyes must have bee crossed after doing that!

Update on my clowns: They didn't hatch last night. Still being fanned my mom and pop!
