Just curious is your pair not laying anymore clutches? Or are you just not raising anymore clutches til you get this group "done"?
 
Yeah steroids that's all they need, lol.

I have let some of the clutches go due to time management or lack of, lol....
I have been trying to decide how many tanks to try and run, I can't keep setting up a 5g tank every 14 days; and my main reef tank is having a bunch of it's own issues right now as well it seems, so choices, choices. I was going to try and catch the last batch but for some reason it was a very small clutch and even the male seemed to think the same thing as me, (not enough to do anything with); he did not care for them and they did not make it.

I do have a clutch that was laid on 9-2-08 that i plan on trying to capture & raise; so if they stay on the 10 to 11 day schedule before hatching they should be ready this Friday or sat evening.

That's basically it. They are essentially homebodies that like to stay close to their home ;)
 
I was just wondering because everyone else who posts either a picture or a video shows them swimming around while mine just hang out.
 
I have some batches that swim like crazy, and some that dont leave the edge of the tank... Kids these days never do what you want them too
 
Well at least it's good to know that i am not the only one with fish that are scared to swim:smokin:
 
Mine just stays next to the wires in the tank and really doesn't venture out that much either so don't feel bad. If it makes you feel better ;) , it looks to me like mine ambushes prey as its flowing past the wires, heater, etc. Maybe yours are doing the same thing. It's probably easier on them to catch food that way than constantly swimming around the tank. Don't know if this has merit but just telling you what I've observed.
 
I think they do eat in the corners of the tank at the surface they just look like little orange bobbers bouncing up & down, one or two will start to go one way and the group just follows along, lol. I was just asking because i was curious as it seems that all the rest of the ones i have seen are swimming around. At first i thought it was just a safety in numbers type of thing but i figured they would grow out of it and they will hopefully; i guess i was just hoping for some more activity in the tank.
 
Not to hijack-
But when do you(or when does 'one') start to see the dominant ones start showing aggression or whatever? I mean can when does 'one' start seeing the heirarchy form? I suppose it may be different with true percs bc everything else seems to be prolonged, but in general?
 
My wife and I watched 2 of our 1 1/2month old 1/2" fry square off on the bottom of their tank on the weekend. It was hilarious. With my Ocellaris at least they start to show signs of a hierarchy very shortly after metamorphosis.
 
I have not noticed any of that going on just yet with mine; they seem still happy to group together. I am going to try and get some new pictures of them up today.

It is very funny to watch them battle. You can tell they provoke each other on purpose!
 
We watched them for a half hour. Its hilarious. And when 2 of them are miffed with each other no one else better come near either or they get it too. I love it.
 
I have noticed that the algae is starting to turn a white color and flake off of the tank walls anyone else ever notice this? I have been slowly trying to buffer the water's ph to bring it up some. I was running 2 different airstones in the tank and last night i turned one of them off and have just left the sponge filter one going and the little ones seemed to swim a bit more around but not much.

Now if i could figure out what is wrong with my main reeftank everything would be great, anyone have any experience with corals that just start to head south? I have posted some pictures in my build thread which can be found by clicking the red house.
 
They look great Dazed. I don't know about the algae dieoff. I wouldn't worry about it though. On your main tank have you been falling behind on water changes because of the babies? I ask because I did and had a similar problem with corals dying...
 
Thanks rkelman; they probably look like midgets compared to yours at the age but i am just happy they are still alive, lol.

No i have kept up with my normal water changes every week removing 8g of water from the system, i wish it was as easy as that though.

The problem seems to be with my monti's caps & digi's....
i have tried dipping looking for pests and have not found anything they are just wasting away before my eyes all the normal water parameters are in check i am at a loss as to what to do
 
ah. I had a problem with Zoas like that. I never did figure it out. I lost most of my colonies. Now everything is on the rebound it seems.
