I may have to agree with the "scrub the whole idea of trying to raise clownfish" thing! My wife:furious: wants to throw me and the fish tank on the curb! :sad2:

That doesn't sound good

You should also add ..."save yourself the hardship & $ MONEY $"

I have made a good habit of not keeping track of hobby expenses, i would be scared to know the truth.:eek2:

Well with all of the issues from the last couple of weeks i don't have much to share; the last batch of eggs that i had were laid on 9/15/08 and lost on 9/19/08 when my bta fell over into the sandbed. At that time i placed a tile in with them to see if she would go back to laying her eggs on it; and either it spooked her this time around or she just does not want it there. No eggs from my pair since the 9/15/08 batch. So last night i removed the tile in the hopes that they will start to spawn again.

I still have the current headcount of 8 in my 5g tank. I did take some pictures last night before doing a wc so i thought i would share them; In the pictures are my 73 day old percs. They GROW SO SLOW but that seems to be the normal thing for them. Still no second stripe but in the pictures you can see the black on the pelvic fins has started to show.

The colours are very nice....but that is insane how slow they progress.

Dazed if you cannot get a nice premium for percs over occelaris I can't see how you can get anywhere with this. If you are doing it for fun and a hobby than keep at it and keep up the good work.

They look great Dazed. I'm sure your pair will get back at it soon.

Thanks; I sure hope my pair get back to business, lol after all this i would be pretty bummed not to get some more chances.
Can you believe the size difference from what you guys get by this time it's just crazy. I had started to think i was doing something wrong; but it seems that every thread i read that is about perc's/onyx the growth rates are very slow compared to the other types of clownfish.

I have been feeding them the otohime and some pulverized flake; formula 1 & 2 & Cyclopes. They also get some bbs still from time to time.

Maybe at some point they just take off in growth? The biggest one in the tank is around a 1/2" long i would guess.

Thanks; and yeah i would agree with you for sure; if someone was wanting to do this for profit i don't see how it could work due to the growth rate of mine. The percs around here do seem to go for 2 the amount of the occ's though? So if i can maybe get more than 8 to work with, lol. but even then the growout time seems to be so long that i would only need to get an insane amount for each one to recover anything; what a fun hobby:rollface:

Well it's been over a month now and NO NEW EGGS have been laid at all. Guess they have lost that loving feeling....

Are they done? I know no one can really answer that for sure, just wondering if i should keep my rot's going or not? I know i can use the rot's in my reef but my reef did ok before without them as well.

As for my little ones i still have the 8 of them; and they are all still single striped but alive and growing.

dazed- You can make it a business, just make sure you file as a "Not For Profit" organization! LOL

Question guys, I've been feeding the otohime to my little guy and main tank but no one eats it and/or spits it out... What's up with that?

I've been keeping 3 batches of Rots going and have been feeding my tank with them. My little guy is still living in one of the Rot tanks so I'm guessing that may be why he's not touching the Otohime.

Well guys; Guess what?? She must have known that i finally had posted about her taking a break I came home last night after going out to dinner and found that she had laid eggs!! It's a small clutch but hey after almost 6 weeks of nothing I will try and work with what i have.

After reading this thread while drinking a beer, I am thinking to just let nature take its course and not try to raise them. Its the whole rot thing that makes me not want to try it. Ugggggggggg. Decisions.....decisions.

Congrats! Had you left a tile in the tank all this time or did she lay the clutch on a rock?

I had a tile in there for around 2 and a half weeks and nothing happened, so i thought maybe she is just bothered by it and removed it from the tank, couple of more weeks go by and bam on the rock as usual, lol...

Really?? with all the DIY stuff listed in your signature and your worried about the little old rot's. They are easy to start and not real hard to keep imo; Now having enough of them when you need them that the tricky part:eek1:
