Just a couple tips I use when I'm drilling FWIW. I tape the back of the hole with well.. Hockey tape. (I'm Canadian give me a break) also I drill from the inside out so I don't need a dam. I just have a small hose and keep the water running. Have the drill turn slowly. Also I support the back with folded paper towel to absorb some of the pressure. When starting the bit I find it helpful to tip the bit to one side until it bites. Then slowly flatten it out. Like I said 10g's are hard. The glass is thin as hell. It looks like you had it and it was just pushing through the other side that broke it.
