My BTA likes to hide from the light.

I got a Green BTA for 3-4days ago and he is staying under a rock and has yet to come out to soak up some light.

I am keeping him well fed but you would think by now he would move.

I guess what you are saying is that 3-4days is not enough time for him to settle in correct?

I just read in the FAQ that the reason my BTA might be hiding from my light is because I use 10k MH bulbs. I would have never guessed the spectrum of my bulbs would be the issue.

I will be ordering 14k bulbs tomorrow.

I would wait before replacing them(maybe get a back up or something) as this can many times just be the anem getting adjusted to the lighting. They always seem to post their foot underneath a rock and then slowly start moving their head around the side of the rock and up. This is a common occurance with newly establishing anems. I like the look of 14K's better anyway, so I'm not telling you not to get them.

You might be right but I want to eliminate any issues I have control over.

this is interesting about bulb temp and anemones, I didn't know that either. however, I do have an RBTA that used to stay in indirect light (i.e. hiding in the rocks) until one of the 10K bulbs went out, and it was the bulb lighting the part of the tank where the 'nem lived. the only bulbs the LFS had were 14K and 20K, so I got a 14K. I switched the one bad bulb out about 3 weeks ago, and now the RBTA comes out into the light a lot more since I put in a 14K over it. so, maybe there is some truth to the thing about bulbs. The owner of the LFS also said that some of the BTAs are collected from deeper water and just don't like intense light....

In addition to light, a well fed BTA will typically stay put. I am not saying starve the thing, but while it is happy, it may stay put. Some BTAs don't need MH, but will probabaly eventually adjust, you'll just get better color.
