2010-02-17 006 (640x480).jpgAfter loosing about 3 previous anenomes due to lack of knowledge, I'm trying again. My anenome looks healthy after about a week and a half. It's in a 24g nanocube. Do you guys think it will outgrow my tank? My clown fish is a tank raised false percula. I do have a 75g tank, but i don't gave a skimmer yet. That's the only thing i got left to put on my big tank, for me to be able to trust it. Besides, i got a 3inch maroon clown that would probably hurt the anenome right now. The anenome is about 4 inches. This guy has killed smaller anenomes before. Thanks for the replies2010-02-17 003 (640x480).jpg

very nice im going through my first experience right now and i hope that we both have great success
excellent!. now i'm more prepared since i have a skimmer and chiller on my tank, which i lacked on my last tries. I also do a 4g water change religiously. I feed my fish verry little also. I have read many many articles here too wich has helped.
do you have a thread? ok good luck to us both!

good luck. Make sure you also test your water religiously. What light are you using, and what's your flow?

I'm using 150w mh lighting. My flow is provided by a maxijet as a return, a tunze 6025 in the main display, and a hydor koralia nano in the main display also. Thank you for wishing me luck. It's been about 3 weeks allready, and i'm feeding the anenome chunks of squid that i bought at the LFS. I'm thinking of doing this once a week. Ok, thanks for wishing me luck.

sounds good so far. Make sure the food you're feeding is small enough so that your 'nem isn't spitting out the pieces.

Ok update! my BTA still doing good in my nanocube24. I'm guessing it will eventually overgrow my tank? I do have a 75g ready(running for 3yrs) next to my small tank just in case. I feed it twice a week(mondays and fridays). It loves the squid I bought at the LFS.

The general rule is the diameter of your anemone should be 2.5x the length of the clownfish as a minimum with 3.5x being better. I would never recommend less than 3.5x. That said, your anemone should be about 10" in diameter to host a 4" clown. It doesn't take long for a healthy BTA to reach 10" but it won't take much longer than that to outgrow your tank either. Although I am of the (controversial) opinion that anemones do not belong in full reefs, I'm very comfortable saying that no host anemone should be in a nano tank. They all grow too big.

Now putting that aside, have you figured out what killed your other anemones? That would probably be the first thing I'd want to figure out and fix. BTAs are the hardiest host anemones - well maybe LTAs - and can usually tolerate a lot.

With regular water changes your 75g is a fine size. Don't let the lack of skimmer scare you. Anemones need clean water but I assure you a healthy BTA will survive long periods of "less-than-pristine" water quality. If the skimmer is the only thing stopping you, the anemone should be fine in there until you do get one.

Well last time my other nems died due to my water quality on both tanks. For that reason I change my water once a week on both tanks(4gallons on the 24, and 8gallons on the 75g. I just checked the parameters on the big tank: ammonia:0 nitrite:0 nitrates:0 ph:8.5 temp:78.5 sg:1.022(i need to work on this one) I need to bring my sg a little higher.

2010-04-20 001 (640x480).jpgupdate! all params on my 75g checked out good since i change 8gall of water once a week. my nem got big enough for my 3 inch maroon, so i transferred it to my 75g with no issues so far after 1week.
