They suck the juice from the clams and kill them. Larger clams last longer but will be kill by these parasitic snails. IMO, they are the most common cause of clam deat in captivity (in tanks the have adequate light)
You need to tank the clams out and scrub and remove all these snails. Clean them again every few days untill you see no snails for two weeks. Check them periodically from then on especially at night. I would breaks all the scutes off of the shell of the clams so that you can throughly clean them off the clams.

They will suck the fluids from your clam.Real killers.Get all that you can see off the clam and also deep in the scutes where they hide and check his byssal for them. That is where they really do damage. You will have to check him everyday. They come out more at night.
Adding a sixline wrasse or a yellow coris wrasse might help control them.Read up on the wrasses before you put them in your tank.
Do a search on "pyramid" and you will get lots of info.
You can't.
You can check him at night to see if there are parasitic snails near the mantle. If this is the case, IMO, you need to cut him loose and treat and clean him until he is snail free. If he does not have parasitic snails at night near the mantle then you can just continue to observe him and leave him be.
