my clam is being harrassed, what's next?

i know that bristle worms can be a common problem associated with keeping clams and i was just wondering what i could do to prevent them from harming my clams... recently one of my clams has completely closed and this has led me to believe that he is being attacked by a bristle worm (that is perhaps within it now?)... i have had decent success with using arrow crabs to decrease the (at least surface bound) number of bristle worms present, any other suggestions?

thanks...

In my experience, bristle worms, unless really huge, won't bother a clam unless it's not healthy.

Have you examined the clam carefully for other parasites, like pyramid snails?

I doubt anything got into the clam unless it's bored its way in. Check around the byssal thread(s) as well.

PS: Arrow crabs work great, but supposedly not more than 1 per tank, unless it's a really really big tank.

thanks for the info... (he started to open up again today)... the reason i asked about the bristle worms is that i always find 2-3 under him whenever i lift him up to try and find out why he's randomly closed up...
