No real idea, but I wonder if it's related to feeding their anemone in the wild? I used to have a female Clark's who would drop stuff into the toadstool leather she used as a surrogate host.
IMO, clownfish aren't actually feeding the anemone, they are using it as a place to store food (( usually bigger pieces )). Think of it like a dog (( or fox )) burring a bone or extra food.
Interesting. Do they place the food somewhere near the anemone's base, or hide it right in the tentacles? It seems like it would be counterproductive to put your snacks somewhere they might get eaten.

You are assuming that my clowns are smart. They just plus it in the middle of the oral disc (( It is a decent sized Haddoni )), and go back into the water column to get more food. They will then go back to the Haddoni and try to get the food back --- but my Haddoni is too sticky and too fast when it comes to eating.

If by "young" you mean clownfish fry, that doesn't happen. Once the fry hatch from the eggs (( which that are good at caring for )) they are on their own, no feeding from the parents.
Originally posted by theredone i dont have an anemone yet im using these guys to start a nitrogen cycle or to see if the tank will stay stable
There is no need to use fish to start the cycle, live rock will work. Plus it is unduly stressful/cruel on the fish. I would to daily water changes to keep the ammonia levels at 0.
the live rock was fully cured and i had no ammonia for three weeks so i added fish to see what will happen still no amonia or would i get a small peek from the fish my levels are great fo these fish now they have never been happier
or put the fish in a smaller tank and do daily water changes.
when we talk about cycling a tank we are really talking about the live rock and sand. if you really did just use all rock and sand from a running system you may not have a real cycle.
you could do a 100% water change on a system with no cycle.
