My clown killed her mate.

So I dunno what happened. I bought the tank with 2 bonded clowns. The female died and the male took over her spot. I got another baby clown and during all my trials as a new tank owner it passed. Well then I got another clown baby. Now the female killed.it too. They lived together over a year with out issue. Then 2 weeks ago she chased him around non stop, then I noticed his lips were swollen like he'd been running into the glass, then last night she was nipping him and he was trying to flee and then laying on the bottom. He looks horrible and I picked him up with my hands and flushed him. He was gone. Will I ever be able to have 2 clowns again?? I only had 2 clowns n a goby so now my tank is more empty. Thanks!!

Sorry for your losses. If you decide to get another, get as small a juvie as you can find, & put existing female in a breeder box while newbie gets acclimated. She'll be able to see it but not get at it for a few days.

I'd put the juvie in the box, easier than having to catch the existing one. That's just me though, both ways work I'd think.

See this one was a juvie when we got him....no white stripes.even. and she was good with him over a year them BAM mean. If I get a baby black n white instead of oclareus will it get along better??

The older one has claimed her territory so putting her in breeder box may calm her down a bit, being able to see the newbie while it gets acclimated in tank. If it doesn't work, you may just have to see if LFS will do a swap out for another one & start all over w/ a tiny pair of juvies. Not sure if it would be any different with b/w occy; worth a try. I've seen some pair up w/ regular occy's. Good luck!
