My Crocea Died - Was his byssal gland damaged?

He dropped some tissue in the first day. I had hoped it was only byssal threads, but I'm now wondering if he was doomed because of damage to his byssal gland more generally. He never seemed to be stable or capable of standing upright.

All the tissue circled in red was dropped. Any thoughts on why he might have died?

im guessin he caught an infection through his damaged bysal gland. it looks like improper collection practice.
