my diamond gobies laid eggs

Kigs

In Memoriam
After being in my tank for about 4 days, they have laid eggs under their cave. Has there been any documented incidents where they have spawned in captivity? Currently they are in a 30 breeder by themselves, so no obvious predators for the fries, but I have a feeling that chances of me saving these eggs are slim to none. Any suggestions would be apprecieated. :)

Congrats

They have been known to spawn in aquariums. Had a breeding pair myself a number of years ago, but didn't have the space to try rearing at that time. Usually the eggs are attached to the roof of the cave, if that particular rock is removable you can pull it out into a smaller tank for hatching. Otherwise you can either rig up a larval collector to put on the tank, or place a light over tank when they hatch to concentrate them and dip them out. I'll have to double check my breeding notes, but IIRC they hatch in about 4 days and are fairly small. I'll think you'll need rotifers to start them off.

Thanks Bill, you're always the guy to go to for fish solutions. I'm guessing they will hatch within the next 2 days then. Would they continually spawn like a mating pair of clowns? Were you able to save any of the ones that hatched?

They will spawn about every two weeks. Never was able to keep any larvae more than a few days, but that was due to a lack of food at the time.

bill - you might want to double check on the Rots being first food.
Watchman gobies have been successfully raised on "S" strain rots, but the yeilds were low, maybe "SS" or pod nauplii might be a better first choice
