The gasket id 1/8 inch silicone oring , It is sold by th efoot or in diffrent sizes I use sperglue to holdit tohether afetr cutting it , you need a special jig to cut it square thou .

Bill, do you mean "superglue"?? Like just regular superglue?

Yeah? I haven't even researched ozone yet. I know a lot of reefers use it but I am still working on the more basic elements of my system. What ozonizer do you use?

Yep superglue , They sell oring splicing kits and thats what they use .
I use a 1000 mg a day RK2 unit with automatic air driers .
It works great . I love ozone keeps the water nice and clear .
Dont use it without a controller , Its pretty nasty suff .

1000mg? Wow that's smoking. Yeah I would never use it without a controller. I'll check into that unit. I am not ready for it but I will be by Summer I am sure.

My skimmer is doing great. I totally clouded up the water trying to vacuum today and then an hour later it was totally clear again. But when I add more livestock, I will need more than just the skimmer.

Bill- Sorry for taking so long to answer your question- The sand is nothing but Fine aragonite. Spazz said he gave you my number- feel free to give me a call and we can shoot the shat. I believe I have something your looking for. Awesome work on the skimmer- Definately top notch hands down. Between you and Spazz I think we have our next "Miracle" skimmer by far. Requests for those things will be off the charts.

Bill, I'm tuning in daily to see your progress. Thank you for taking the time to update us stage by stage.

hey bill this should arrive at your door some time tonight with me in tow. ha ha ha i will have the camera all charged up for this trip down. i wont be able to stay long i have to be in michigan tomorrow.
this one should hold up that huge cup assembly you have. i put a 1/4" oring grove in this one. but i was not sure if you were using 14" wall tube or 1/8 wall tube for the riser. so its a little thin in that area. but it will work either way.

i think this will be the largest diy skimmer ever built in the world. i cant think of another one i have see that is bigger in total gallons or tube size. ha ha ha i will get some pics standing next to if for compairson. i just dont think you guys understand how big this thing is. it should stand around 6 feet tall and weigh around 300 lbs empty. when it comes time to get energys skimmer built like that one i think we will have to rearange the fish room to accomidate the skimmer. or may be he will just have to add on to that fish room. humm i like that idea. ha ha ha

Hmm...I do agree that this may be the biggest DIY skimmer ever built.(congrats!)

How do you think it would compare with one of these ?

These massive skimmers are fitted on the Georgia aquarium..which contains 8 million gallons of water!..

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chemical Engineering people.

This is still a pathetically small vessel compared to many things in a plant.

Funny, those look like RK2 skimmers. That is the very brand of skimmer that Bill is replacing with this one for efficiency reasons.

Those do look like RK to me as well. When I went to the Atlanta Aquarium, they still hadnt started the behind the scenes tours...looks like I have a trip to go on...

I wouldnt doubt that they are RK. The Atlanta Aquarium gave em the overall impression of just having visited a 'Petco' or 'Petsmart'. Everything was very 'slapped together' without the thoughts of what was best for the fish. The Atlanta Aquarium is a commercial venture, not a research aquarium like so many others (Monterrey, Baltimore, Shedd, etc.) that are doing propigation and research...not just show.

There is not a single public aquarium in the country that is not a commercial venture. Atlanta just open. Give them time buddy................
