ok to get this thread back on track seeing bill forgot to post the funniest pic you will ever see. here is a pic of me standing next to big bertha. to see this skimmer in person is a whole different ball game vs looking at a few pics on the internet. bills craftsmanship is supurb. i dont know any shop in the united states or europe for that matter that can hold a candle to this skimmer. when bill gets done posting the funny pic you will understand why i say that. come on bill your kiling me here. i have to see that pic!!!!!!!

"O" and by the way. we figured big birtha's size to be around 150 gallons in volume with the cone and lower box. she is bigger in volume than the rk2 in the fish room.

Holy crap. That skimmer is bigger than my upcoming tank upgrade.

Yeah me too.

Bill: is this the week that we'll get to see how well the skimmer works?

Scott, did you notice all the fish in the corner begging for food??

no they were not begging for food. they were begging for bill to finish that thing so they dont have to swim in the toilet any more. that rk2 cant keep up to even that bio load in the tank. thats pittiful for a skimmer that size to be out performed by a half rate butt ugly "big ugly" skimmer like mine. that rk2 dont put out hardly anything compared to the big ugly. energy is still getting pretty good production out of that slapped together skimmer. so what does that say for needle wheel technology. a whole bunch of nasty skimmate. thats what. i think bill will have to get a 55g drum to collect his skimmate in. his skimmer should be about 75%-100% more effecient that my big ugly skimmer. so he might have to empty the cup every 2-3 days. and at 20 gallons at a time it might make the 2 dogs barf all over the place smelling that nasty skimmate. plus bills girlfriend might kick his butt if she had to smell that every other day. ha ha ha ha

Yeah, your skimmer might be working well if your dog (who will happily eat from the garbage) barfs when you dump it out!

I am stunned. I have been following this thread from the begining... I wish i could build one of these. all you guys with shops.... i am jealous....

Spazz&Wan..... when is the hopefull lift off of this bad boy......

So Bill will need a pump to pull the skimmate out of the barrel! What about going directly to a drain and skip the barrel? Check my thread for a foam stain on the ceiling!

I wonder if bleeding off a little air will help cool down the air pump?

anymore pics?

that skimmer is HUGE! I can't wait to see how it performs..

Bill- any idea on when it should be up and running?

thanks

Nick

Mother f.......... Now, that is a good size skimmer. When I was looking at the latest pictures Bill posted of how he plumbed the pumps and such, I did not realize how gigantic this thing really was. I can't hardly wait to see this working already.

dgasmd Has anyone ever asked you to change that avatar?? That thing creeps me out every time I see it. :eek1:

About how high will the water level be in the main tube?
150 gallons of water (minus the injected air's volumn) weighs
over 1000 pounds. Yoikes!

The lower box is 3/4-inch acrylic, right?

It looks great so far. Simply amazing. I'm very excited to see how it runs on Bill's system. I hope we see lots of pictures. Oh, and let us know what it sounds like. I have a feeling it will be very quiet, except when the collection cup is off as that is when my skimmer has a resonance thing going.
