My Erectus Will Be Here In The Morning!

I am so excited and have nobody to share my excitement with, so I figure all ya'll will understand. Tomorrow my first erectus will be here! I can't wait! He's going to be the only horse in the tank for a minute, and I feel badly about that, but I'm going to be ordering two females from Draco Marine, probably after Christmas.

I'm sooo excited!

Good for you...it is an exciting time and at the same time, a nerve wracking time, but all will go well.
I got two males to add to the two females I got from Draco last April. They came two weeks ago. They are both still in a quaranteen tank and will go into the main tank in two more weeks.
If you ordered the mediums, I noticed mine like the Hikari mysis better than the PC mysis I feed the older erectus. They are smaller pieces and the little ones are able to eat them easier.
I took the temp, ph and salinity of both the bag water and the tank water they went in right after they came and adjusted my tank accordingly. I floated the bag for the temp to equalize then very slowly added tank water a half turkey baster full at a time every 15 minutes or so while the bag floated. Everyone has there own way of acclimating, but remember to go slow and not rush them.
My new little ones are doing well. Draco has very nice horses and I always recommend him. If you have any questions or trouble, he is just a phone call away and has helped to reassure me through bringing in new horses to a new home both times I ordered from him.
Good luck and don't forget to post some pics :)

Thanks for that info! I'm not too sure how big he is going to be. I plan on ordering females from Draco Marine as soon so I know the next day I will be off work so I can receive the package while I'm home, I am going to be getting medium females, and I don't know if I'll be ordering one or two. Decisions, decisions.

I tend on taking the pH and what not of the bag water and comparing it to mine, floating the bag and acclimating with the water for at least an hour. I won't add him to the tank until he shows no sign of stress what so ever. And then I'm going to feed him right away :) Poor baby must be starving LOL

Draco..

Draco..

When I go to Dracomarine website, it always says they are out of all their stock. How are you ordering?

Angeline,
Yes, feed them in the bag while acclimating. Mine ate like little pigs before they were put in the tank :)

Whylde-I just went to dracomarine.org and it looks like Jorge does have Erectus available. Maybe you are thinking of Danu from seahorsesource.com-he seems to be out of stock on the erectus for now. He is another very good SH breeder that I would have ordered from. I may in the future when I set up another tank--maybe for a kuda.
I think it's best -for me anyway, to stick with the same source of purchase since these are all from the same facility. I would worry about trying to put horses in the same tank (erectus) from different breeders. Not saying it can't be done, but it's just taking more risk. And since I've only been keeping sh's since April, I am not a risk taker:)
Either Danu or Jorge (Draco) are great breeders. I've talked to both on the phone and they are very helpful, spend time to reassure you and give you plenty of time to ask questions.
 I did call Jorge the night before I placed my order on the website to check for availability. He shipped out the very next day.
