My feather duster moved out? Help please.

I got a feather duster by mail. On placement into the tank, the worm like thing itself emerged partially. I pushed the transparent part into the sand bed. Next day, the tube opening was in a rock hole. I left it there. Next day I took it out, and after waiting a week, no dutser emrged. I looked at it more closely today, and the whole thing appears hollow. I have another feather duster that is perfectly content. What happened?

If it was being irritated or just not comfortable with its surroundings, feather dusters can and will leave their tube homes and are usualy hiding in the sand, be patient, I had the same thing happen with one and thought it had died only to find it appear again a month later.

Does it grow a new tube, or find its old one?

If they are healthy, they will grow a new tube.

AFAIK you also have to feed them phyto (I would use live) and have a healthy sand bed for longterm success.

Thanks. Yes, I feed dead phyto and have a healthy sandbed and a fairly nutrient rich tank.

Mine did that, then grew a new head about 2weeks later, even bigger and more beautiful
