My first attempt at breeding True Perculas

I have my rotifer culture going and am feeding Roti-Grow nanno.
I put the whole liter of phyto into a bucket with four gallons of water with a SG 1.020
It stinks something awful, is this normal?
I removed about 2 gallons and added two gallons of freshly mixed water and that brought the smell down, but it is still there.
I cannot see any rotifers in my culture like I did in the bag they came in.
The water is changing from green to clear so I guess they are still in there.
Any advice would be appreciated.

i use a clear vial like the ones that come with the hanna checkers, however mine used to have brine shrimp eggs to check mine. it will take a couple days before the culture starts to take off so I wouldn't really do a water change for 2-3 days.

I have never noticed a smell with mine, however I have never used the roti-grow nanno. I always have used RGcomplete

I gave it 4-5 days but the smell got ovewhelming.
I think the whole liter was too much for 4 gallons of water.
Since I cut the concentration in half the smell is greatly reduced.

My rotifer culture has a lot of debris on the bottom of the 5 gallon tank it is in.
What would be the best means of removing this?

the way I clean my tanks are just stirring up the junk right before I change the water, it doesn't get it all but it keeps it mannaged fairly well. about every 2-3 months though I will strain about half the rotifers out and then clean the tank real good and start with all fresh NSW and using the rotifers I strained.

OK, Cool!
Thanks for the tip.
My male keeps staying in the nem while the female moves around the tank more. Hopefully she is looking for a spot to lay her eggs.

mine does the same, the male hardly ever leaves the anemone but the female goes everywhere in the tank. so much for the house wife :D

From your last mention on another post we talked on, I "think" you are doing this in your main display, is that correct?

Oh no.
I set a 55 I had laying around just for the clowns.
I used sand collected from the beach and rock from my main tank - no cycle.
2 X 250 watt MH and 2 X 96 watt PC actinics.
